CIA joins probe of British spy slaying
Source: UPI

LONDON, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- The CIA was called in to help investigate the death of a British spy whose body was found decomposing in a sports bag in his bathtub, officials said Thursday.

Gareth Williams, a 31-year-old code breaker for the MI6 Secret Intelligence Service, supplying Britain with foreign intelligence, was often sent on secret missions to the United States. He returned to London from his last U.S. trip a few weeks before he was found dead, The Daily Mail reported.

Security officials told the Mail they could not explain how someone holding his sensitive post could go missing for such a long time before police were called.

Detectives were said to be trying to determine if Williams was strangled or asphyxiated or if drugs or alcohol were present in his system. Police discounted lurid speculation he had been stabbed or even dismembered, the Mail said.

1. Nothing to see here...move along...move along.
Why would the CIA be investigating a MI6 agent death? That's the 1st question. Second question rests on how long it took to find the guy.

Revealed: Murdered spy was elite codebreaker and made secret trips to US
Aug 27 2010 By Jon Clements

MURDERED spy Gareth Williams was one of the world's elite codebreakers helping US spooks foil al-Qaeda terrorism, it was revealed yesterday.

The 31-year-old maths genius jetted to America regularly to meet National Security Agency off icials at their Fort Meade HQ in Maryland, nicknamed "The Puzzle Palace".

Williams's mysterious death has been greeted with dismay at the NSA.

Fort Meade off icials have been kept updated on the investigation into how the keen cyclist, on attachment to MI6, was found dead in a sports bag in his bath.

They are keen to know if there has been any breach of global security as a result of the murder at his Government-owned flat in Pimlico, central London.

5. Apparently he was a highly skilled mathematician
and hence probably mention of code breaking. I knew a guy years and years ago who'd been a code / cypher breaker. He said it was a very lonely existence. He'd be more or less locked down in a basement to avoid distraction / loss of concentration until a code whatever was broken
