Panhandle anti-abortion activist on trial on molestation charges

Associated Press

MILTON, Fla. - An activist with ties to anti-abortion violence went on trial Monday charged with molesting a teenager at a home he ran for troubled girls and women in this Florida Panhandle city.

The trial of John Burt, 66, began with jury selection. He is accused of improperly touching and propositioning the girl last year, when she was 15.

The alleged victim, now 16, is to testify through a satellite video link from Northern Ireland after lawyers make their opening statements Tuesday at Escambia County's court building in nearby Pensacola.

The trial will be moved there for one day because the Santa Rosa County Courthouse here lacks equipment for the video hookup. The girl's father, who lives in South Florida, refused to let her return from her native land to testify in person.

6. If they flood the world with unwanted children...
... that leaves them with more varity and easier pickings. Sick as that is I think there is a grain of truth in it.

17. Actually, It's Not Ironic
A lot of anti-abortion rights people, men in particular, believe that all men have dominion over all women. They believe that it's a woman's God given duty to bear the children of men, even if the conception was due to rape or incest.

His actions are in keeping with this theory.

7. Child molesters don't last long in prison,
so maybe he'll move right along to meet his "just rewards". As far as I'm concerned, this bastard is the fucking poster-child for the anti-choice pinheads. Screw them all.

5. His anti-abortion motto must be..
"Don't kill your kids before they're born. Let me do it for you when they become teenagers by raping and torturing them to death."

11. Being pro-life or pro-choice
is a moral choice and has nothing to do with whether a person is a child molester or not. You are trying to link apples and oranges.

14. If you can't make fun of right-wing child molesters here, where can you?
No one really means that all right-wingers are child molestors, they're just making jokes.

15. No but there does seem be a correlation betw. people who like to moralize
about how other people should behave and moral turpitude on their own part. Let's see, just in congress alone we have Newt Gingrich, Henry Hyde, Bob Livingston, Robert Bauman (conservative congressman from Maryland who got caught with a young boy in a men's room a while back) - I am sure I missed a few. And of course we have the televangelists Jim Bakker and Jimmy Sweigert....We can only guess what that nut Phelps is hiding about his personal life (the guy who has a gay bashing church made up of mostly members of his own family).

18. Being a child molester (or not) is NOT a moral choice?
I'd actually say it's an unambiguously moral choice. Unlike reproductive choice--which can be an economic choice, a spiritual choice, a social choice, a health choice, etc., etc., etc.

10. I remember him
He is quite well-known in that area for his nasty demonstrations at the clinics. I think he's the one who used to drive around on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade with a trailer hitched to his bumper decorated with all kinds of anti-choice pictures and propaganda. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Here's an article from the local paper.

Always end up caught with their pants down, and that their supporters who cried loud and long over a blowjob given between consenting adults give these monsters a pass.
How's that for fucked.

Teen testifies via TV against Panhandle anti-abortion activist

By BILL KACZOR
Associated Press Writer
PENSACOLA, Fla.
A 16-year-old girl testified from Northern Ireland via satellite television Tuesday that she was molested last year in Florida by an activist with ties to past anti-abortion violence.

She was 15 when she accused 66-year-old John Burt of improperly touching her and showing her a written proposition at Our Father's House, a home for troubled girls that he and wife Linda ran in nearby Milton.

The teen said she ran away June 5 after Burt had touched her breasts, groin and "bum," slang for buttocks, over a three-day period. Burt also grabbed her by the wrist and forced her to touch his groin through his pants, she testified.
(snip)

The girl said moments later Burt showed her a note describing sex acts he wanted them to perform and then wrestled her to the kitchen floor when she grabbed it from him.
