Liberal talk-radio network set for debut
Conservatives, plug your ears: Liberal talk radio is finally here.
Al Franken and a host of garrulous progressives ease onto the airwaves tomorrow morning on America Left, broadcasting live from 6 a.m. to midnight on weekdays via XM Satellite Radio and three AM radio stations — in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.

---snip---

"My first priority is to get sued by a right-wing jerk in order to generate interest in my new show," Mr. Franken said in a statement earlier this year.
The day long lineup also includes comedian Janeane Garofalo, an outspoken critic of the Iraq war; environmental activist Robert F. Kennedy Jr.; and Alan Colmes, co-host of Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes."

P.S. As a rule I don't comment in the original post...but....ALAN COLMES????? This project is DOOMED!!!
I listened to him when he was on the radio years ago and he is worthless. He can't debate, gets run over by conservative callers, flip-flops when he gets stumped (which is often) and has the humor of a bad case of heat rash. GOD I hope they give him a co-host that can carry the show. <sorry, the man really rubs a nerve for me>

8. Catfight you and I will have to hear web streams unless
you also have satellite radio. It's being carried on XM Satellite radio channel 167.

Right now they're only being caried on radio in 5 markets. Here's the list:
http://www.airamericaradio.com/

I'm still tuning in via the web. Can't afford satellite radio, though I would love to have one.

Happy and successful launch to Air America tomorrow! :toast:

I don't understand why we won't be able to hear it as well on AM like the other conservative monopoly on the AM airwaves? What liberal media?

35. Woohoo!!
Finally some balance on XM! I was getting tired of Faux, ABC (w/Hannity, Elder, etc), Family (read: XTREME Right Wing hate mongers)

Gee whiz, and to think I was almost going to cancel my subscription next week....

2. Colmes not really part of lineup
Air America is going to be integrated into XM's "lefty" satellite channel, so they're going to include some of their existing programming - including colmes - in that.

On normal radio, or streaming, there will be no Colmes.

Unfortunately I can only imagine how great
it would be to hear Mike's remarks about the
recent testimony of Richard Clarke and the
spin from "too stupid to be president", the pig
man, and others in the BFEE gang. So much great material
for someone like Mike Malloy.

23. Line-up is a bit limp for me...
What's with this? We don't need high-brow liberalism... we need raging, over-the-top left-populist venom! That's the recipe for building a left analogue to the right talkers.

With some other dude and Lizz Winstead, one of the co-creators of the Daily Show. I'm not exactly sure how highbrow that is. :)

I'm looking forward to his show as much as Randi Rhodes (I miss Mom!) and Al Franken. He is SO cool.

25. Remeber it is a start
As we go along they will determine the who and what of things. It certainly can't be an "In Your Face" attitude that permeates the GOP Hate radio. It must be done with candor and humor and appeal to moderates as well as the liberal base. We can not fight hate with hate. They are far better at it and would win hands down. We must be above that and yet attract listeners. Humor and satire are our best weapons. Also just having someone take their ( GOP) words and put them into context and allowing truth to poke it's head out. If it is entertaining without being hateful it will work fine.

27. You got it!
Liberals are brilliant and perhaps more importantly we're FUNNY. Just look at the success of the Daily Show, Michael Moore's books, etc. People like to be entertained--and if they get some truth in the process that's even better.

Don't underestimate this approach. So many of the apolitical sheeple I know have gotten edumacation from watching the Daily Show and have started to question *. It plants a seed...then I point them to DU, Buzzflash, Bartcop, etc. I am so excited about this network it's not even funny.

I completely agree, humor's definitely our best weapon. A trojan horse, if you will. :)

32. Does anyone know what sponsors they have?
With Al Franken and his great humor, Chuck D and his popularity, Janine Garafolo's satire, they've got a great mix, but, who are the sponsors? I hate admitting it, but, with Rushie and Seanie having solid sponsors, who's coming on board with Air America? Are they buying the time to begin with, and building a base, then offering up the time for sale? I am concerned with who they are going to get. I damn well don't want to hear the same crap on Faux News and Hannity's show as are on Air America.

But, the concern is that air time is expensive, especially in New York and Los Angeles, the number 1 and number 2 radio markets in the country. Let's get this thing off the ground!!

36. don't know about sponsors but
the bottom of their home page makes a mention of membership. I would assume like NPR or Pacifica. I hope so I don't believe they can rely on corporate sponsorship as corporations are not too likely to sponsor non corp loving radio. Lack of boot licking is the real reason talk radio has so few liberals, not lack of audience.

38. I saw that "membership" thing too...
I do wonder what it all means... on http://www.centralairmedia.com it paints a bit more of a picture, but, just as far as the lineup and corporate info goes (they are based in NYC, that's about as far as that goes.. haha). I am sure they have to have some sponsors, I don't expect Al Franken to work for free, as progressive as his views are, he ain't cheap, I am sure of that.

I am just curious, that's all.. advertising is money, and if they have to hock Tom's of Maine toothpaste, so be it. It just might be problematic getting big, long time sponsors when a good chunk of them are the blood sucking corporations Franken blasts half the time.

Good luck to them!!
