Floor Statement of Sen. Daschle on the Abuse of Government Power
<snip>We all need to reflect seriously on what's going on. Not in anger and not in partisanship, but in keeping with our responsibilities as Senators and with an abiding respect for the fundamental values of our democracy.

<snip>The retaliation from those around the President has been fierce. Mr. Clarke's personal motives have been questioned and his honesty challenged. He has even been accused, right here on the Senate floor, of perjury. Not one shred of proof was given, but that wasn't the point. The point was to have the perjury accusation on television and in the newspapers. The point was to damage Mr. Clarke in any way possible.

This is wrong–and it's not the first time it's happened.

<snip>The White House and its supporters should not be using the power of government to try to conceal facts from the American people or to reshape history in an effort to portray themselves in the best light.

They should not be threatening the reputations and livelihoods of people simply for asking – or answering – questions. They should seek to put all information about past decisions on the table for evaluation so that the best possible decisions can be made for the nation's future

Excellent statements, check it out and pass it on to local newspapers and other media!!

1. Daschle with a spine
Is it just me, or has Daschle really been standing up and being counted lately?

6. Keep it up, Tom! You're country needs you now!
Maybe he's tired of being afriad of being anthraxed or Wellstoned.

Maybe he now sees his duty to Country more clearly than he ever did.

Whatever it is: Thanks, Sen. Daschle! Keep up the good work!

2. These jokers are in need of a good impeaching!
Seriously, Bill Clinton was dragged over the coals for lying about sex with a consenting adult - what does it take to make people understand that this administration is the most corrupt in many years and should be brought in front of the congress for a good old fashioned drubbing?

3. What's gotten into Daschle lately?
He seems to be less afraid now. Haven't seen this side of him since the anthrax attacks. I am just hoping they have a plan in place to take down this unconstitutional dictatorship that we are suffering under today.

Thank God someone did! Senator Frist's comments shouldn't have gone unanswered.

Thank you, Senator Daschle!

8. Time to me to e-mail Sen. Daschle
Great to see this. I don't know who provided the calcium and
fosamax, but to see signs of a healthy spine is long overdue.

Hopefully the more e-mails we can generate in support; the more
we will see statements such as this.

9. Maybe it's just what he said,
they finally "crossed the line" and the Senator just can't stand it anymore. I was always one of Daschle's strongest critics. When old Senator Byrd stood alone against the Empire, I cursed Daschel for a spineless cur. Well, I hope this is his 'turn-around', I truely believe, when it comes to fighting for your freedom, it is never too late.

12. Great, best use of the senate that the democrats can do right now...
...filibuster this very issue. Use the Senate floor to discredit the Bush administration for all the lies and deceptions they are making. At this time in our nations situation I can't think of a better use of the senate forum. John Kerry can conduct his campaign right from the senate floor.

13. Flag Waving
The Bucking Donkey Red/White/Blue as flag material.

I have a certain respect for Clinton's Centrist Policy.

Daschle appears 'considerate' in his deliberations, as opposed to 'rehearsed' or 'staged lies'.

Like we're hearing from Bushes.

But we remain in denial.

I wave my flag upside-down w/burnt edges
