Emotional Elder Bush Attacks Son's Critics
Sniff... poor Poppy!!!

Read it and cry along... you know, there is something truly disturbing about this family and their righteous sense of "hands off" and privilege.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20040330/pl_nm/campaign_bush_father_dc&cid=615&ncid=2043

Excerpt:

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Reuters) - An emotional former President George H.W. Bush on Tuesday defended his son's Iraq (news - web sites) war and lashed out at White House critics.

It is "deeply offensive and contemptible" to hear "elites and intellectuals on the campaign trail" dismiss progress in Iraq since last year's overthrow of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein (news - web sites), the elder Bush said in a speech to the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association annual convention.

"There is something ignorant in the way they dismiss the overthrow of a brutal dictator and the sowing of the seeds of basic human freedom in that troubled part of the world," he said.

The former president appeared to fight back tears as he complained about media coverage of the younger Bush that he called "something short of fair and balanced."

Media coverage of his son is "something short of fair and balanced."

Of course the media has been his accomplice.

24. Yeah! If the media was doing it's job
there probably wouldn't be anything to criticize to begin with. If the press had treated Duh?bya like they did Gore during the campaign, Duh?? wouldn't even be in D. C. to criticize. If the media had treated Duh?? like they did Clinton.....Oh! don't get me started! I'm fighting off a rant here! Poppy can just go poop his pants! If his little boy isn't man enough to face a fair campaign, he should DROP OUT! Poppy is a wimp, and his son is too!

122. Perhaps Daddy shouldn't have abandoned the Iraqis in Gulf War I
Whether the first Gulf War was right or wrong the beginnings of a revolt were starting to occur when Bush basically allowed Saddam to crush it after initially encouraging the rebellion to begin with.

Maybe we wouldn't be in this mess now if the Bush administration had shown some concern for the Iraqi people the first time around.

71. Well, maybe half of the masses *smile*,...
,...which depend upon (and truly do "trust") the media to be "informative". It is really weird, though, for me to have contact with those whose lives are such an incredible struggle just to survive (in total contrast with those whose lives are OVER-pulentiful) and listen to them repeat soundbites from TV. Today, I ran into one of those struggling souls who spoke of the campaign ads concerning an alleged gas tax by Kerry. I said, "Do you realize that those ads have become something akin to a used car salesman trying to sell you a piece of crap?" He replied, "Oh, yeah,...I know that." Then, I asked him if he realized that nearly every senior member of this administration makes big money from the oil industry, the arms manufacturing and dealing industry and the finance industry. He replied, "Oh, yeah,...I knew,...sure, I knew that." I smiled at him and stated, "In that case, you know who would be making a lot of money at the American people's expense when we go to war in oil-rich countries and when the gasoline and other fuel prices go way up, huh."

It is "deeply offensive and contemptible" to hear "elites and intellectuals on the campaign trail"

Lets see know.......To me, an intellectual is a person who has a successful academic background and who knows how to think, analyze and comment. I would be honored to be considered an intellectual.

Now, the elite is someone who thinks he is better than everyone else and when we have an administration thats gets its shorts in an uproar when someone sez something negative about it.....well, you know the old saying...."If it walks like a duck, swims like a duck and quacks like a duck, it must be a duck." This administration is just that....
a bunching freaking ducks. Now poppa duck shows up to comfort baby duckling. Aw, the mean old bad guys are saying not nice things about junior. Awwww. Well poppy, tell Junior to stop acting like a jackass and we'll stop regarding him as one.

that money can't buy for you and your spawn.

Go listen to some Dylan, like "Masters of War." Try to get a clue.

Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul."

Take your cue from the Bengals last year, BFEE...
"It hurts an awful lot more when it's your son that is being criticized than when they used to get all over my case," said Bush, who has often complained about media coverage of both Bush presidencies.

When you stop being a shitty team, they'll stop referring to you as one.

49. Jeez, I love threads like this!
Poor beleaguered Dad. I'm sure he and Ole Barbara sit glued to the TV set in the den of their beautiful estate in Texas.

They watch with bated breath as TV reporters carp about the ongoing scandals. They hold hands and they look at each other from time to time. The sweat builds on their foreheads, in spite of the air conditioning running through their den.

"Shit". George mumbles. "I went to so much trouble to get the media in line. And look now what they're doing". "So undisciplined, these stations".

Barbara sniffs, and squeezes his hand tighter. "My baby", she whispers. "Why are they doing this to him?"

...just wait, Barbara. It ain't over yet.

www.talkingpointsmemo.com

March 31, 2004 -- 01:34 AM EDT // link // print)

Reading the lede of this piece from Reuters, I had to wonder whether I might actually be reading a spoof from The Onion ...

An emotional former President George H.W. Bush on Tuesday defended his son's Iraq war and lashed out at White House critics.
It is "deeply offensive and contemptible" to hear "elites and intellectuals on the campaign trail" dismiss progress in Iraq since last year's overthrow of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, the elder Bush said in a speech to the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association annual convention.

Defies parody ...

Talk about a sense of entitlement. I wish someone would point out that this family fits the term "welfare queens" more aptly than anyone Reagan tried to caricature back in the late eighties. How much of their money continues to flow directly through government (through exclusive, hidden contracts)? Yet they should never be accountable - and shame on those who would dare speak out. Democracy, shemocracy... we bush's believe in demogagic divine right (and privelege) of the oligarchs.... "Let them eat cake!"
