White House Blames Congress for Gas Prices

By TERENCE HUNT, AP White House Correspondent

ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE - Americans would not be paying high prices for gasoline if the Congress had passed President Bush (news - web sites)'s proposed energy package three years ago, a White House spokesman said Tuesday as the administration faced criticism from Democratic rival John Kerry (news - web sites).

----snip----

McClellan said the administration has been in regular contact with major oil producing countries to stress the importance of letting the market determine the prices of oil.

"What we need are comprehensive solutions, not patchwork crisis management," the spokesman said.

"We wouldn't be in this situation right now if Congress had acted on what the president had proposed three years ago," he said.

===================

give the story a couple of more days and bush* will be blaming Clinton.

I know there are lists out there detailing bush*'s flip-flops -- do we have one listing everything that he blames on someone else?

1. white house is good at blaming others
Even though this is an administration that ran on accountability, they sure do like to blame others for everything that goes wrong.

3. The President always takes this blame. Clinton got it when he was in.
I filled my tank and was shocked as I go few places and have a small car and felt it was Bush, Cheney's fault.Specially since they were so in with the oil companies and I am sure I felt Clinton was to blame before. Since I can not get any results from the oil people I pick on the Presidents at the time.

2. Frankly, a good oil crisis

is what this country may need. Well, maybe not a crisis, but definitely something to make people think about their SUV's. Gas is expensive, but you wouldn't be spending as much if you didn't have to fill your tank after 15 city miles.

5. That would be the GOP congress, right?
Well, OK, W. They have to go too. For the gas. You - for 9.11, war, stolen election - etc

This is an administration that's quick to take credit. They're very
slow to take responsibility.

10. Not Really...
Three years ago (thanks to Jim Jeffords leaving the GOP), the Senate was controlled by the Democrats. So Bush is trying to place the blame on us.

Jesus, nobody in the real world gets away with this kind of response.
For the last 3+ years we have been treated to a never ending line of shit like this from that pathological nitwit and his band of inbred cronies. Will this goddamn nightmare ever end?

with the proposal 3 years ago. They have sinned against the chosen one and gone against his wishes. This is their punishment to create an uprising in their constituency.
He's a delusional idiot son of an asshole now.

12. Bad and good.
I don't like spending more either (or how it might affect inflation), but maybe now americans will lose that sense of privilege when it comes to the world's energy supplies. We need to get serious about how we're going to solve the problem. Cheap gas is just more delusional thinking, IMO. Doesn't everyone else in the world pay alot more?

15. Right Ilsa.
As I've said here many times before, in Canada we pay the equivalent of almost $4.00 US a gallon. And the US whines about $1.75 - and some of it is our freakin' gas that was shipped down there! Good ol' NAFTA where Canada pays more for its own gas, and Florida pays more for its own orange juice. What a f**ked up system!
