British Panel: al-Qaida May Be Stronger

LONDON -- The al-Qaida terror network remains capable of carrying out new attacks and may have gained strength from the war in Iraq, a parliamentary committee warned Thursday.

Osama bin Laden's organization continues to pose "a substantial threat" to Britons, even after the capture of many its leaders, the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee said in a report.

Despite progress against al-Qaida and the overthrow of Saddam Hussein, "we cannot conclude that these threats (from terrorism and weapons of mass destruction) have diminished significantly," said the committee.

OF COURSE we were right. Cripes, critics on the "right" and "left" predicted this. Distracting the nation, and diverting our resources, in a mad rush to invade a country run by a dumbshit who posed no immediate threat, was a dangerous and immensely stupid thing for a man whose only constitutionally charged duty is to provide for the security of the American people...
