Inmate Asks Federal Court To Halt Execution
Source: KTVU

SAN FRANCISCO -- A death row inmate has asked a federal appeals court to halt his execution while letting pass a deadline to choose his method of lethal injection.

Lawyers for Albert Greenwood Brown filed court papers Sunday saying he is appealing a federal court judge's refusal to block his execution, which is scheduled for Wednesday. Brown also declined to choose between a one-drug lethal injection or execution by a three-drug cocktail.

1. The man has been convicted of raping 2 girls, ages 14 and 15 and killing ....
.... the older one after he was out on parole for 4 months after serving 3 years for the rape
of the younger one.

I oppose the death penalty because it costs too much and takes too long but my sympathy for Mr. Brown
who has now lived in jail twice as long as his murder victim did is mighty thin. If it was up to me I would dump
the death penalty and have a life w/ no parole penalty but as long as this law is on the books Mr. Brown
is a good person for the needle.

<He was sentenced to death for the 1980 rape and murder of 15-year-old Susan Jordan in Riverside. He had been paroled
four months earlier from a prison term imposed for the 1977 rape of a 14-year-old girl.>

2. I oppose it because it creates a killing mindset
And I don't see why they don't just leave this guy locked up and forget about him.

But then I start reading about it being cruel and unusual punishment to be in a super max facility, and then I think well, if we can't guarantee these sickos can't escape, then we do have a right to protect our kids from them any way we need to.

I wish we would stop worrying about pot smokers and spend all that money locking up child molestors and rapists. They seem to me to be the ones who turn into the worst kind of murderers.

4. Why did it take so long to come to this point?
Thirty years is an awfully long time.

The prescribed guidelines for these types of heinous crimes should exclude lethal injection and make mandatory the electric chair.

6. These type of people should not be executed, they should be studied
So we can figure out what the fuck is wrong with them and how to prevent it in the future.

7. UPDATE: Albert Greenwood Brown set to die from drug combo
Condemned murderer Albert Greenwood Brown had been given until noon Sunday to decide how the state should end his life: with a heavy dose of a single drug or with a three-drug combination.

Brown chose neither, letting pass a deadline for the decision set by U.S. District Judge Jeremy Fogel of San Jose. That leaves prison officials free to proceed with California's standard three-drug execution early Wednesday unless state or federal courts intervene.

8. He called a victim's mother after the rape and murder to taunt her.
'According to court documents, he said: "Hello, Mrs. Jordan, Susie isn't home from school yet, is she? You will never see your daughter again. You can find her body on the corner of Victoria and Gibson."'

He was identified by three witnesses, and had kept her school books as a trophy.

I'm against the death penalty mainly for cost reasons, but in cases such as this, it might be worth it.
