A court hearing to determine whether a University of Michigan student leader is successful in getting a personal protection order against a Michigan assistant attorney general accused of harassing and stalking the student has been delayed until Oct. 25.

Christopher Armstrong, the U-M student, is president of the Michigan Student Assembly. He filed the order in September against Andrew Shirvell, who last week took a personal leave of absence from the attorney general's office.

The hearing was to take place at 1:30 p.m. today.

This is crazy!
Why on earth should it take three more weeks for Armstrong to get a protection order?
There is definitely something wrong with this process.

No formal reason for the delay was announced, but an official at the Washtenaw County Trial Court cited a "service issue" as the cause for the delay.

However, the hearing could be delayed further if Armstrong or Shirvell fail to appear in court on Oct. 25. All parties must be present at the hearing in order for the judge to make a decision about the personal protection order, an official at the Washtenaw County Trial Court told The Michigan Daily last week.

3. Well, as long as he is not collecting a payroll check nor unemployment
and he cannot go on the University campus, it's probably fine to leave the story alone.

We don't want those West Baptist whatever people and Tea Bagger evangelicals showing up at the court.

4. A request for a restraining order must be served on the person
who is to be restrained. That is the only reason a "service issue" would delay such a hearing three weeks. In California (which this case is not) an order can be granted when there is evidence of a threat of harassment.
