Bush, Kerry to debate at least 5 times
Bush, Kerry to debate at least 5 times By William L. Watts
WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) -- President Bush and Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., will face off in at least five, media-sponsored, nationally televised presidential debates, under a preliminary agreement announced by the Democratic National Committee and the Republican National Committee on Thursday. Vice President Dick Cheney and Kerry's eventual running mate will debate once. "While details remain outstanding, we are confident that if both sides act fairly, the American people will have an opportunity to view an unprecedented number of presidential debates, providing them with the best possible forums and information on which to judge the candidates," Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe and Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie said, in a joint statement.

17. Uh,
How?

I really don't think too many people will want to see video closeups of the ears of John Kerry and George Bush. Anyway, how would you pove that? I guess you could shine a flashlight into one of Bush's ears, and if you can see light out the other side...

In all honesty, Kerry really wasn't so great during the Democratic debates. He doesn't produce the kind of brilliant soundbites that, say, Al Sharpton can wheel out on demand. He tends to ramble and pontificate.

George Bush isn't a great debater either, and his command of the issues is non-existant, but in 2000 he came across as being friendly and likeable and I think he allowed Al Gore to beat himself in at least two of the debates.

I think Kerry will win, but he's got to think long hard and hard about his debate strategy. A lot of people pay a lot more attention to likeability than they do to, say, issues. I think that's a problem for Kerry.

PS: This document proves that * met his debating requirement.

1st Reporter: Then why wasn't * at the dabate last night?

PS: This document proves that * met his debating requirement.

2nd R: where was * when John Kerry was waiting at the debate site?

PS: This document proves that * met his debating requirement.

2nd R; I asked you a direct question.

PS: And I answered it, This document proves that * met
his debating requirement.

1st R; Then why wasn't * at the debate?

PS: He had a note from his Mommy! :dunce:

Remember, they gave him points just for just showing up? Al Gore clearly beat him in the last debates, but, the media lauded Junior because he didn't make any major 'gaffes'!

*sigh*

30. It shows that the RNC knows they're behind.
If Bush/Cheney were looking at a big lead in the (real) polls, they'd never agree to five debates; two or three at the most. As the time gets closer, their demands for favorable ground rules will become more draconian, most so if they see any rise in the polls.

19. Never
It will never happen. It's some kind ploy. At the last minute the RNC will insist that no one ove 6'2" is allowed to be on stage. Kerry will say he can't do it, then, and then RNC will accuse Kerry of being afraid to meet Bush.

21. note to Kerry: don't hit him too hard, people will feel sorry for him
that is going to be their only defense in a debate.

"Kerry was mean!"

"Kerry sounded like a know-it-all"

"Kerry was pompous and arrogant because Bush was so obviously stupid Kerry didn't have any patience with him"

"Kerry was patronizing"

25. April Fool's joke from DNC...
DNC: Debate announcement was April Fool's joke By William L. Watts
WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) -- A press release from the Democratic National Committee announcing Thursday that it had reached an agreement with the Republican National Committee to hold five presidential debates between President Bush and Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., was a hoax meant as an April Fool's Day joke, DNC spokesman Jano Cabrera said. "My apologies to any member of the fourth estate who may have mistook this as a real release," he said. (Editor's note: Earlier Thursday, MarketWatch reported that the debates would take place, based on the DNC release.)

28. FIVE? I don't buy it.
IF true, it indicates that even boosh's* handlers know he's in for a serious fight this time around. But if his numbers are close enough for Diebold to work its magic, I'd look for "other pressing issues" to allow him to beg off at least one or two of them.

Either way, he'll wind up getting points just for (1) showing up, (2) breathing, and (3) not soiling his pants (at least not noticably).

29. Why were there more primary debates than general?
Does that make sense? I would think that considering the importance and the timeframe, there would be a whole lot more debates leading to the general election. Once a week would be ideal.

And, is Nader invited to these?

>media-sponsored,<

this says it all. if you think anything the "media" sponsors is going to allow the true idiocy of the frog torturer to be observed by the masses, you're sadly mistaken. the media will lob his assholishness nothing but softballs, will breathlessly over-report on any imagined facial tick or slightly questionable wardrobe choice of kerry's, and ultimately declare the little thumb sucker the winner. mark my words.

48. The perfect joke
Foisting this joke on the press accomplished three things:
1. It chastises those in the media who go to print without checking their facts (I think a single phone call to the White House would have cleared this up).
2. It gives early exposure to the debate issue.
3. It underscores the fact that Bunnypants is afraid to debate.

Good one, DNC!
