Cuomo tells gay activists he will legalize same-sex marriage, make 'equality a reality' in New York
Source: NY Daily News

Our Kate Lucadamo is on scene at the Empire State Pride Agenda's Fall Dinner, where just a short time ago, Andrew Cuomo told attendees he wants to make their hopes of legal same-sex marriage a reality.

"I don't want to be the governor who just proposes marriage equality. I don't want to be the governor who lobbies for marriage equality. I don't want to be the governor who fights for marriage equality. I want to be the governor who signs the law that makes equality a reality in the state of New York," said the Democratic nominee.

The declaration was "music to our ears," one activist said.

There were initially some reports that Cuomo wasn't going to show up at the event, and that he declined to fill out ESPA's candidate questionnaire. Over the summer, the NYT ran a story quoting activists questioning his dedication to advancing gay rights.

1. 2016 might be a little early, since he'll only have been Governor for four years
but I really hope he has the guts his dad never had, and shoots for the White House. We need a President who's not afraid to stand up for what he believes.

2. OMG he can't come right out and say stuff like that
He'll lose the election for the Dems! He needs to consider the "deeply held beliefs" of others, do studies, engage in a process, and consider all the options. We can't have Democratic politicians with spines...they're unelectable!

5. Curb your enthusiasm. Save yourself some bitter disillusionment.
He's not strong on glbt issues.

He's been around NY politics for eons. Managed his DAD's GOV elect campaign in '82(?). That was the "vote for Cuomo, not for the homo" campaign.

I'll vote for him cause he's not Paladino. That's it.

You have to follow NY politics for a while to fully understand ( Then you can be jaded as me.).

But there's always some chuckles to be had amidst the treachery and gloom. Check out the Bloomberg quote in favor of ss marriage at the tail end of the piece. Now... lets see... which mayor was it about 6 years ago who ordered city attys to go to court to argue AGAINST marriage equality?

And people here think OBAMA is screwing them over.

6. The limiting factor isn't the governor, though, it's the NY State Senate.

Nice to see even rhetorical support for marriage quality, though.

7. He can sign it and lobby for it
but it has to get past the state Senate. That's why I'm working for the state candidates and not Federal, we need just a couple more dems to break the ties and get stuff passed.
