Cops used fake patient IDs to buy medical pot; was it entrapment?
BY BILL LAITNER
FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER

Oakland County Sheriff's deputies used phony Michigan medical-marijuana cards -- created on a county computer -- to trick state-approved medical marijuana providers into selling the drug to the cops, according to documents obtained by the Free Press from defense attorneys.

Days after the drug buys, county narcotics agents raided two medical-marijuana dispensaries Aug. 25 in Ferndale and Waterford.

"These officers were denied entrance on several occasions because of improper paperwork, but when they appeared with these cards, I had no way to check," said Brian Vaughan, a doorman at the now closed Everybody's Café dispensary in Waterford, who is charged with multiple drug violations.

"You've got law enforcement spending time and money to entrap users of medical marijuana," Southfield attorney Michael Komorn said Tuesday.

Do the drug forfeiture laws provide a financial incentive for this kind of police work?

16. They should. But when the cops break the law
they usually get promoted, and it is called "good police work"

Criminalizing people who are not doing anything wrong is apparently a standard part of their job, while doing everything wrong is apparently an approved part of their job.

here, they've not only criminalized some innocent person, but also reduced the legal rights of a group of people! It is a Double Bonus! I'm sure they're celebrating in the Police Department! x(

3. Harassment and huge waste of time and money by the police.
How much time and effort do they put into busting CVS for filling bogus scripts? I'm guessing ZERO.

12. I always wondered why
If you are somebody like, let's say, Blackwater (or whatever they are called today) and you basically still milions of dollars from the federal government you get a slap on the wrist, change your name and continue to get milion dollar government contracts. No arrests, no jail time and no oversight after the fact. Yet, if you sell or possess a little weed they treat you like you are an enemy of the people out to corrupt our youth and do everything thing they can to harass, arrest and basically ruin your life. I think the problem is that many people, in positions of power, in the federal government are certifiably insane.

7. phony cards, created on a county computer -
wouldn't that be kind of like the US mint printing phony money? If they have the proper software, the correct identification, etc., to make the phony indistinguishable from the real thing - something available to them because of their privilidged position - then how is the pharmacy supposed to know that it isn't legit? Do they expect the pharmacy to have a face-to-face with every prescribing doctor to verify the legitimacy of the scrip?

13. A lot of crime by govt here...
Forgery and entrapment being at the top of the list. People should vote out the sheriff for one who will not waste resources this way.
