GOP says compromise not on the agenda if they retake the House
By Michael O'Brien - 10/22/10 11:46 AM ET

Republicans aren't interested in compromising with President Obama on major issues if they retake the House or Senate, a senior GOP lawmaker said.

"Look, the time to go along and get along is over," said Rep. Mike Pence (Ind.), the chairman of the House Republican Conference. "House Republicans know that. We’ve taken firm and principled stands against their big government plans throughout this Congress, and we’ve got, if the American people will send them, we’ve got a cavalry of men and women headed to Washington, D.C. that are going to stand with us."

Pence said his party wouldn't compromise on issues like spending or healthcare reform, two of the weightiest items on Congress's agenda next year, when the Republicans could control one or both chambers.

"Look, there will be no compromise on stopping runaway spending, deficits and debt. There will be no compromise on repealing Obamacare. There will be no compromise on stopping Democrats from growing government and raising taxes," Pence told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt Thursday evening. "And if I haven’t been clear enough yet, let me say again: No compromise."

Are they so stupid that they think this is news? Never mind. I know that answer.

70. I would say it should be news
This should be a top issue brought up in any media coverage of the impending elections. Because there are a whole arseload of "disgruntled" voters, tired of gridlock, tired of nothing getting done, tired of partisanship, who plan to "vote the bums out" so that they can see some change in Washington.

Knowing that the pubs plan to keep the status quo NO MATTER WHAT should be a key fact in election coverage. But its not. News aint informative anymore.

55. they're already blaming Obama
the repugs have attempted to stall, get their shite passed or dilute true legislation, and still they vote "no." And, then they blame the democrats for every fekkin thing, because the democrats even if they wanted couldn't pass a really active, progressive agenda to get this country economically back on track. You have economists, like Krugman, say more needs to be done-you have Galbraith saying the SS concern is bullcrap--and repugs have damaged us for the past eight damn years and they're telling the american people "sure we screwed you royally, but hey we have the solution to all of those problems we basically created." Another words, let us fleece you and screw you some more while our global fatcat friends get even fatter on your money and while we strip away more of those programs that are supposed to aid you, make sure we create more slave labor unsafe jobs so you and your family can circle the drain.

25. Clue in a non-American on how legislative repeal works down there
Obviously if the GOP tries to repeal some legislation Obama can just say "nope!" the first time. Is the supermajority the only way to push through that, or can they immediately re-repeal with the same vote margins they had on the first attempt?

We should pass EVERY BILL that advocates the end of capitalism as we can. In addition, Obama should appoint EVERY federal judge vacancy with the most progressive, preferably young judges, even graduates right out of school if necessary, so that if the heathens try to reverse the new bills that advocate the end of capitalism, they can rule against the republicans.

Screw how "this looks." This is fargin' WAR, and the republicans need to be destroyed....ANY WAY POSSIBLE.

not that a repug would care about that--it's the almighty corporation that counts. But, if the government stagnates on economic reform, we, the proles, are going to suffer more than ever. Why doesn't the repugs just put signs on all of us saying "cheap, slave labor for hire to the highest global bidder."

how, exactly does that change the virtual gridlock?

the repubs won't have enough votes to do anything, yet, I bet, they will suddenly scream from mountain to mountain how the Dems are OBSTRUCTIONISTS!!!

Which in turn will be reported ad nausium on faux news.

Then the mouth breathing morons will march out parroting the talking point, "when the dems were in charge, the repubs tried working with them, but the dems didn't want to hear anything they had to say".

more of that good ol' revisionist history.

If they take control, mark my words.

There are a lot of stupid people in this country.
You'd be able to explain this to them so they can see the irony
(if it happens) and they won't get it. Why ?
Because there is an amazing amount of stupid people in this country.
Example, Christine O'Donnell supporters. After her 1st Amendment debacle
the other day, anyone who votes for her is simply stupid. Do we want soccer
moms as representatives or statesmen ? (unfortunately statesmen like we had
decades ago are no longer around).

33. Simple explanation
These people want us GONE! As in adios, sayonara, see ya hate to be ya, don't let the door hit you in the ass type of gone! They want to take everything that we've worked hard for and sell it to the highest bidder. And they've done it for 30 years now. We need to realize that this is their plan all along, AND NOT TO FORGET AS WELL!!! The "Grand Oligarch Party" wants nothing more than total elimination of anything that makes the United States of what it was. And that is why they're using issues like guns, religion, abortion, etc. to push their dangerous bankrupt agenda.

I live in Indiana all my life. I know how tough it is to be in a conservative state, and it's not fun.

P.S. Note to Mike Pence: YOU CAN KISS MY ASS!!!

For all practical purposes we have a Democratic party that is in no way the party of FDR, and a Republican party that is in no way the party of Dwight Eisenhower. I early voted and I will say I did not vote for a Republican and very few Dems that were in local races. Everyone can guess who I voted for Gov, US Senator and my US Representative.

44. They're Total Assholes
Pres. Obama's mistake from Day One was trying to be a good guy and work with these asses and look what is going to happen next month. These guys are scumbags and could care less about compromise. They are beholden to big business and screw the little guy. If Obama and the Democrats had shown some balls the last two years and emasculated these right wingers we wouldn't be having this discussion. But no, everyone tried to play nice. When will Democrats start playing dirty. I'm tired of the passive response to things. That attitude of "we're not going to stoop down to that level" is pure BS. This isn't the 50s or 60s now. It's a very down and dirty game. Democrats refuse to play that was and it is going to cost them big time. The arrogance of these guys is amazing. All the right wingers accuse Pres. Obama of being arrogant, but all I have to do is see Mr. Bottle Tan Boehner preening on TV and my blood pressure goes off the charts. I want to be optimistic, but I can't be with the polls and rhetoric that is coming from the media. All I heard from these s0called Democrat strategists was by stonewalling and being obstructionists to Pres. Obama that the Republicans would pay the price in the midterms. Well, the midterms are here in less than two weeks and I can see the butt whuppin' comin'. I wish I could think differently, but we blew this one big time. We're going to have people like Boner, Cantor and others running things. You think we'll get anything passed that Pres. Obama wants? NO CHANCE. Plus we're going to have a few additional nutbags on the loose in Congress. I can't wait for the likes of Rand Paul, Buck and others in the Senate and some of the other lunatic fringe in the House. 50. If only the Democrats had done the same...
Fuck this bipartisan nonsense. These people are moral monsters. You can't do business with terrorists.

52. gasp! nooooo -- really?
winning the general should have been a clue card -- bipartisan footsie has us in the trouble we're in now.

if they had legislated from the left we'd be in much much better shape.

in congress the most progressive economic bills should have been introduced with little concessions, and after the repugs and blue dogs said "nay", I would have shouted it on every damn media outlet that the repugs have said "no" to relieving the suffering of the american people and said "no" to regulate, to hold those accountable. That in order to get true economic turn around, we need those in office who will support the American people. It's been two years of concessions, watering down some bills and the scrapping of others--real reform means showing the people that there is stagnation brought to you by the repugs. I would have pointed out that Reagan increased the deficit by about 128% and Little Boots increased it about 89% and had one of the worse job creations record in the last eight years--why are the repugs concerned about the deficit now? That we may increase the deficit, but it is the consequence of righting wrongs and getting the people back to economic stability.

60. It's a neoliberal party - the days of progressivism are gone.
It's about incrementally selling off the role of government
And where isn't sold off creating mandated partnerships with
Corporations.

They're not racist or horribly sexist -- those are feel good issues now and even better PR.

61. But of course, WE should be just like the Republicans.
The Republican "no compromise" bullshit has gotten them so far, hasn't it? Lost seats in Congress every election for the past 14 years save for two.

-Lost the election in 1996 and lost seats Congress.
-Lost seats in the 1998 midterms.
-Bush lost in 2000 and the GOP lost seats in both houses of Congress.
-Bush barely won in 2004.
-The GOP lost the House and Senate in 2006.
-McCain lost the election in 2008, and the GOP lost even more seats in Congress.

It is all that they have.

They have been reduced to right wing zealotry, living off fear and anger.

And the Obama administration promises not to do anything without "reaching across the aisle" to achieve "bipartisanship"...

In other words, we're screwed either way...

And the two right-wings of the Corporate War Party and their employers win...as usual...

they were Republicans -- You've heard of Fighting Bob LaFollette, right? The last Progressive Senator...

Mr. Wilson (D-warmongering racist) took care of the Progressives...

And if we hold the House and Senate and continue to compromise with them, then Obama has to go.
