As of Thursday, April 1, 596 U.S. service members have died since the beginning of military operations in Iraq (news - web sites) a year ago, according to the Department of Defense (news - web sites). 9. That's right
The vets hold an important key to convincing the deluded here that this war must end now.

Hell, they might even convince John Kerry.

6. That is sad we passed 500, what about 5 or 6 weeks ago.
What happened to the deal where we would be welcomed in with flowers and open arms? Victory is always just around the corner, we were fed the same BS about Nam.

7. CNN has it at 601
http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2003/iraq/forces/casualties/

However, I searched the site and do not see the five from yesterday, March 31.

I hate to say this but I don't think Americans will think it is a big deal until it hits 1,000. There something about factors of ten and anniversaries that gets us all jazzed up. You know, though, they'll be plenty of wingnuts like Limbaugh who will try to downplay it by mentioning the 50,000 dead in Vietnam.

"There have been 702 coalition deaths, 601 Americans, 59 Britons, five Bulgarians, one Dane, one Estonian, 17 Italians, two Poles, 11 Spaniards, two Thai and three Ukrainian, in the war as of April 1, 2004. The list below reflects the names of the soldiers, Marines, airmen and sailors whose families have been notified of their deaths by each country's government. There have been 3,457 U.S. troops wounded in the war, according to the Pentagon. This list is updated regularly."

8. We are in deep shit folks.
Potentially much worse than Vietnam, politically. Much worse than Watergate, politically. Bu$h is in deep, deep shit now. It only gets deeper with the Cheney Doctrine in place. Adults in charge? Give me a fucking break!

10. All in vain; perhaps worse than in vain
There are lost causes. Bad causes. Even foolish causes.

But is anything worse than dying for a lie?

12. 600 more to toast on Memorial and Veteran's Day.
So tragic that our own people have been murdered by our government.

R.I.P. to my protectors who have been so ill used.
