Deal Calls for Prison Time for Woman in Missing Girl Hoax

LEBANON, Ind. (AP) - A woman charged with claiming to be a long-missing girl, dashing the parents' hopes when the hoax was uncovered, agreed to plead guilty and serve prison time, prosecutors said Friday.
Donna Walker, 36, arrived in court Friday morning when the deal was to be presented to a judge.

Walker had faced 12 felony charges that she claimed last July to be Shannon Sherrill. The girl was 6 when she vanished in 1986 while playing hide-and-seek near her mother's mobile home in Thorntown, about 30 miles northwest of Indianapolis

Under the deal, Walker would plead guilty but mentally ill to a felony attempted identity deception and misdemeanor false reporting. She would face 1 1/2 years in prison and four years of supervised probation. Prosecutors released details of the deal ahead of a court hearing.

Those of us who have no belief in supernatural, omnipotent sky-gods are still reeling from recent occurrences of psychotic mothers bashing their progenies heads in, or drowning them in bathtubs, all because they were ordered to by the voices in their heads. Not to mention nutcases flying airplanes into buildings to the glory of their gods.
Instead of families and friends making sure these deludinoids get help, they are abetted, and encouraged in their illness by the mass hysteria they're surrounded by.

It's a tough time for rationalists.

This story has NO RELIGIOUS ASPECT!! Bringing one into it is purely for the purpose of bashing religion. I will not let that slide. If you need to defend a position filled with prejudice, don't ask me to "turn the other cheek".

BTW, I thought those examples of women killing their children were matters of mental illness. Aren't we supposed to have compassion for the mentally ill or doesn't that count if we can get a few licks in on the religious out there?

I have a friend who is taking her son to an exorcist! She hears Satan's voice at night. Her church is guilty, in my mind, of racketeering (taking money from her) and accelerating and exploiting her madness. Liable, liable, liable.
I am trying to get her to a secular therapist, but when one sees "satan's eyes" staring out of her child's face, it's difficult to break through.

The issue of religion is not pertinent to what the original post addressed. To bring religion into the discussion is to show how deep a persons religious bigotry invades everything they see. If you want to defend that practice then I have to believe you also suffer from that problem.

As for your friend, a call to children services might be in order.

I agree that this has nothing to do with the original post. I was just trying to make a point that the Texan may be suffering from anxiety caused by faith based initiatives, enforced prayer, and a supreme court justice that thinks that * is appointed by Gawd because he didn't actually win the election. I suspect that Texan may know more about this story than we do, our mayhap he is confusing it with the Smart kidnapping story. But, you're right.
