No indication of more parcel bombs

WASHINGTON - US COUNTER-TERRORISM chief John Brennan said on Sunday there was no intelligence indicating additional parcel bombs from Yemen but refused to rule out the possibility.

'I think we have to presume that there might be and therefore we have to take these measures but right now we do not have indications that there are others that are out there,' Mr Brennan told NBC's 'Meet the Press' news show.

'We are trying to get a better handle on what else might be out there, that's why we've taken exceptionally prudent measures in my mind as far as preventing packages coming in to the United States from Yemen.'

Authorities have said two parcels discovered on cargo planes in Dubai and central England late Thursday after a tip-off from Saudi Arabia contained explosives and were intended to bring down the aircraft.

'We are trying to get a better handle on what else might be out there, that's why we've taken exceptionally prudent measures in my mind as far as preventing packages coming in to the United States from Yemen,' Brennan said.

1. White House Official: Bombs Were From Al Qaeda
Brennan Can't Rule Out More Explosive-Laden Packages

By JOSHUA MILLER
Oct. 31, 2010

Inn interview this morning on "This Week," top White House official John Brennan said he believes the bombs found in packages in cargo planes on Friday were "an al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula effort" and that the Obama administration "can't presume that we have identified all of the packages that are out there."

"What we're trying to do now is work very closely with our partner overseas to identify all packages that left Yemen recently and to see whether there are any other suspicious packages out there that might contain these IEDs," he said of the improvised explosive devices.

Brennan, the assistant to the president for homeland security and counterterrorism, said the two woman arrested Saturday by Yemeni authorities were not the only people involved in the plot.

"We're looking for a lot more," he told anchor Christiane Amanpour.

Brennan also said he suspected the individual who made the bomb that was used by Umar Farouq Abdulmutallab, the failed so-called Christmas Day bomber, also made the IEDs found in Dubai and Britain.
