Nearly 1 million have cast ballots in N.C.

RALEIGH -- About 950,000 voters have cast ballots in North Carolina, according to data released Sunday that show an early Republican surge in voting has been matched at the polls among registered Democrats.

An Associated Press analysis of the state's voter database shows more than 15 percent of North Carolina's registered voters have made their selections. Early voting ended Saturday, and mail-in absentee ballots continue to arrive ahead of the election Tuesday.

About 46 percent of ballots cast have come from registered Democrats, while 36 percent are from registered Republicans. The advantage for Democrats has steadily widened since the first days of early voting began about two weeks ago, when Republicans were trailing by just a few percentage points.

Am concerned how early voting affects the exit polls, but then I've never been exit polled at all.

my son voted Saturday, the last day of early voting here in NC, he had to wait in line for over 2 hours.

that is good news...if the southern democrats actually voted for democratic candidates.

Early voters, in my mind, are the more dedicated voters...it's the ones that haven't voted yet who are the key. which side of the aisle will be more motivated to get their asses in gear and go cast their votes.

Dem 2,765,495 Repug 1,956,423 Libert 9,247 Unaffil 1,462,220

Libertaians are often conservative, not always, but let's give the Repugs the benefit of the doubt and add all the Libertarian votes to the Repugs

Dem 2,765,495 Repug + Libert 1,965,670

Repuga are short of Dems still. So let's assume 1/2 of the Unaffiliated go Repug too.

Dem 2,765,495 Repug + Libert + 1/2 Unaffil 2,696,780

Still shy of Dems and I haven't even added the other 1/2 Unaffiliated to the Dems!

So let's assume more Unaffiliateds wll be conservative than not and add 2/5ths to the Dems and 3/5ths to the Repugs.

Dem + 2/5ths 3,350,383 Repug + Libert + 3/5ths 2,843,002

STILL shy! Let's try 3/4ths of Unaffiliated going conservative.

Dem +1/4 3,131,050 Repug + Libert + 3/4ths 3,062,335

So, even with all the Libertarians and 3/4ths of the Unaffiliateds the Repugs are STILL shy by

68,715!!!!!!


This of course an unscientific game. I made up voting habits for both sides... not all Dems will vote Dem (fools!) and who knows how Libertarians and Unaffiliateds will vote. But even so.... it seems fishy to me that NC would go red!

Wow, that last statement was really pessimistic.

The State houses have been Democratically controlled since the 19th century and have had I think 2 Republican governors in that time.

The US House of Representatives since going to 13 districts has been an average of 7-6 by party.

Outside Jesse Helms, the senate seat has switched parties every election.

The only thing "Red as a baboon's ass" about this state has been presidential elections, which again, was reversed last time.

Unless you somehow consider a state that went for President Obama, has a Democratic governor and both houses of the state legislature controlled by Democrats somehow to be a Republican state.

This has always been a Democratic state. The only thing that's been Republican has been the tendency to vote Republican in presidential races, which has changed. In no small part this has been due to folks moving from other states: our number one source of inmigration is New York, and we have gotten lots of folks from New England, two.

This isn't Jesse Helms' North Carolina any more. Please don't insult the hardworking Democrats who have worked to keep North Carolina blue by accusing us of being Republican.

And even "defund the NEA" Helms voted for a STATE SUPPORTED SCHOOL OF THE ARTS in the '60's. (I know... I went there. Have a BFA in Costume Design)

Even Helms is skitzoid. The whole state is!

It's one of the few, if not the ONLY, state in which voting "straight ticket" won't put a vote for president in the system. People there very often vote Republican for the president, then Democratic for every downticket race.

I think she had closed the gap in recent weeks to just under double digits...but, a win would be almost inconceivable.

I didn't think she was the best candidate for Dems... but the Party has just abandoned her! Meanwhile, it's wall to wall Burr ads (boy are they lousy too... vague and inaccurate) for weeks now during the local news. Marshall had one ad? maybe? I've seen twice. She got zero help from the National Dems or White House.

Why?

This should have been an easy win. Burr is as useless a Dole was! He also single handedly put a hold on something in the Senate... what was it?...

Is that not a winning issue for Marshall? Burr wastes our military's time and money....doing the party's bidding and NOT his constituency's!!!! Another Libby Dole just collecting money and perks from NC but not working for the people of NC.

She should win.... but alas I doubt she will. She could with a little of that big money....and some endorsements from the Dem party.

They supported their boy Cal Cunningham who just gave me the heebie-jeebies and then left her there twisting in the wind.

Even worse, 2 weeks after the primary, she was polling at a draw with Burr - but no support ever came.

That's why all my money went to her instead of the DCCC. Sorry boys, if you aren't going to support her, I have to.

High turnout usually favors Democrats.

When Jesse Helms was active, he encouraged his supporters to register as Democrats in order to be able to vote in the Democratic primary. Back then, I am not sure there was an "Independent" category.

Jesse then asked all of the "Jesse-crats" to vote for the weakest Democrat to give him the greatest advantage in the election.

I have tried to parse the numbers in the last few elections based on registration and have found a large margin of error that I blame on residual Jesse-crats.

There was an independent category for the second half or so of his tenure that could vote in Dem primaries but not Rep ones. Now, as you know, it's both.

exit polls and MSM reports that we don't get that the voting is fixed. No one is replaced without swearing their honor to the agenda; no incumbent is granted re-election without their solemn promise to the PTB.

They are now trying to tell us that California is going to reject Prop 19. Give me a FB. No way California doesn't pass 19 without Diebold tabulators. Oh, I guess everyone here forgot about all that vote manipulation. We still believe that our vote really counts.

Now I am ignorant when it comes to voting systems in other states, but I KNOW what is going on in my state.

We don't have Diebold tabulators in CA. Our Secretary of Stae Debra Bowen (let's re-elect her, Cali!) de-certified the machines and we vote on paper now!
That said, I think the word on Prop 19 flailing in the polls is BS.

DIEBOLD tabulators!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have seen them in my precinct for years.

Do your homework. We have a long way to go for real elections anywhere in this country. Just because the paper ballots are available for recount means nothing. Especially for federal elections where their court challenges were deemed moot because the house had already certified the election. This happened right here in California circa 2008

The report shows that this version of GEMS not only deleted a batch of ballots without any request by --- or alert to --- the elections staff, but also failed to note the deletion in the system's audit log. The report also points to other startling deficiencies with Diebold/Premier's software: "Key audit trail logs in GEMS version 1.18.19 do not record important operator interventions such as deletion of decks of ballots, assign inaccurate date and time stamps to events that are recorded, and can be deleted by the operator."
