Iraqis Condemn Falluja Attacks, Warn of Bloodshed
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=578&ncid=578&e=2&u=/nm/20040402/ts_nm/iraq_dc

<snip>
The U.S. Army promised an "overwhelming" response, saying Marines in charge of the area west of Baghdad would pacify the town and hunt down those responsible.

Residents said the military should think carefully about how to react.

"The Americans should think before they act. If they enter Falluja and use force it will only be met with force and this will happen over and over," said Lt. Mohammad Tarik, a member of the U.S.-backed Iraqi security forces in Falluja.

"This is Falluja. Everyone is angry with the occupation and there are many tribes, which means there will be revenge. The Americans should just keep out."

3. the occupation forces' "revenge"/"pacify" communique is a gas
They speak of "pacifying" al-Fallujah, just like what was done to Samarra, Tikrit, Baqouba, and other places previously......resistance attacks continue on a daily basis in these locations. Whatever these clowns are smoking, I want a bag of. :eyes:

4. Troops used in retaliation for private interests?
Edited on Fri Apr-02-04 02:11 PM by BeHereNow
WAIT just a minute!
The people attacked in Falluja were working for Blackwater.
More than likely they were hired to protect private
sector no-bid contract winners. (Halliburton, B&R, Bechtel)
I thought our troops were there to bring peace and democracy.
Obviously they are there and being used in
protecting private CORPORATE interests, not Iraqi or American interests.
Anyone else have a problem with our kids and coin being
used this way?
Basically they have said we are going to send our military
might in there to avenge private corporate losses.
These fucking people are incredibly corrupt.
How dare they use our kids to retaliate against a corporate loss.
It is certainly not in OUR interest as it will only create MORE
terrorism against people who are not stockholders in Halliburton.
That would be you, me and the rest of the people in this country.

5. good point, BeHereNow
The fact that these mercenaries, whoops! pardon me, I think they are
called "civilian contractors" now, were Americans is strictly incidental.

I am sorry those guys died, don't get me wrong, but they
were highly paid and they could have been from ANYWHERE. They were
not fighting for any country, they were fighting for the big bucks
that Blackwater paid them.

They are not "our boys", in the traditional sense.

So, it's a good question, should our boys risk thier lives to
avenge the lost lives of mercenaries, whoops! I did it again,
"civilain contractors"?

6. Bush, of all people, should understand revenge
Bush, the Maladministration, and the BFEE have be swift and ruthless in avenging all slights, real and perceived, against their interests. Surely he would understand that Iraq - like most of the Middle East and parts of the Southern United States - is a vengeance culture. Insult is met with violence; violence is met with increased violence. With the maladministration, truth is met with slander and sensitive disclosures are met with persecution. The difference between the Iraqis and Bushites and just a matter of money and style.

7. Conservatives: they love the past but don't know any history
If they really want to be blustering toughguys, they're going to get their asses kicked. Urban warfare is muy ugly; Stalingrad wasn't called the "mass grave of the Wehrmacht" for nothing. History literally gushes with parallels, but these guys are firmly convinced of their inherent superiority; funny, but all colonialists were, and many got their comeuppance from just such egocentrism.

Even if we affect some kind of "urban pacification", we will bleed in the process, and will cause so much bloodshed to the innocent, guilty and semi-guilty that the country will explode. Lost in all of the rhetoric about the divided groups that make up this country is the truth that many still identify themselves as Iraqis, and you'll see some surprising repercussions even among the extreme Shiites when their Sunni cousins get martyred.

We INVADED them and we're OCCUPYING them; it shouldn't be some shock that they are miffed at the state of things.
