Florida House Democrat Grayson loses re-election bid-networks

WASHINGTON | Tue Nov 2, 2010 8:47pm EDT
Nov 2 (Reuters) - Florida Democratic Representative Alan Grayson lost re-election on Tuesday, the CNN and Fox networks projected, helping Republicans gain ground as they try to win control of the House of Representatives.

Grayson had gained prominence when he described the Republican alternative proposal to healthcare reform as "don't get sick, and if you do get sick, die quickly," making him a big target of conservative activists.

But he lost to former state lawmaker Daniel Webster and failed to receive a big enough boost from a campaign swing with Vice President Joe Biden in the final weeks of the race. (Reporting by Jeremy Pelofsky; Editing by Alistair Bell)

1. No surprise
Grayson should have stuck with the truth and he might have had better results. Not easy being a D in an R district but he set himself up for failure. I will miss his loud voice.

3. Grayson wasn't politically bumped off, he committed political
suicide. We moved to FL recently and noted that he was toast for a while.

26. Campaign Ads - in no way believable - any credibility he had
was shot - and pretty much everyone in Florida called him on it. "Taleban Dan" didn't play well in Orlando, or anywhere else.

And when you appear ready to drown, the sharks circle for the feast

5. Hey Orlando
Next time some of you (and you know who you are) complain about all the Kluxers and fascists in your city, keep in mind you voted out the one person who was willing to stand up to them. I bet you are happy with your disney paycheck.

The nation may be great, but right now, it looks like the only good thing about being in Florida is seeing the look on their faces when they lose medicare and benefits, and when the oil rigs pull up.

10. That's not very fair
I doubt the people that object to the klan and fascists were the ones that voted against Grayson.

I'm sad. But not sorry I contributed to the Congressman with Guts. And i don't even live in FL.

What's the story about Disney opposing Grayson? I never heard that.

I voted for him, but the GOP spent more money to oust Grayson than any other candidate. If you haven't noticed yet, the person with the most money generally wins.

and two years from today. I don't think Con Grayson is going to be quiet now. I sure hope not. I am a Republican and if I lived in your district, while I may not have voted for him his first election, I sure would have from the moment I became aware of him. I think he and Sen Franken, Sen Weiner, Sen Frank are true patriots. I can't say that about many supposedly from my party. In some ways I think the only silver lining to tea baggers is that they have drawn a least some so-called Republicans out of the GOP. I believe the US is strong enough to survive. I see a weird possibility that some of these so-called militias will be reacting to conditions caused by their own elected officials. I mean, imagine if they really stopped all taxes and all federal programs and departments? They can't even make up their minds over Afghanistan and Iraq. I wonder what the the percentage is in Congress those who were in office when Sept 11 happened and still in office. Its not very much about campaign cash.

I hope somehow you all can get a chance to vote for him in the future. He's a good man. No matter what party he represents, he represents his district. Good luck.

Megabucks spent over 140 million on her election!!

21. This is terrible, terrible news
I felt sick when it was announced Grayson lost. The people of Orlando just screwed themselves.

I hope Grayson moves to a progressive state/district and runs again (or at least gets his own cable news show).

God bless Alan Grayson.

35. Alan Grayson Loses House Seat To Daniel Webster
Source: Huffington Post

ORLANDO, Fla. — Florida's Democratic U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson has been ousted after earning notoriety in his single term for harsh rhetoric that included accusing Republicans of wanting sick people to "die quickly."

With 78 percent of precincts reporting, Republican Daniel Webster had 56 percent of the vote to Grayson's 38 in their central Florida district around Orlando on Tuesday. Webster is one of Florida's most experienced Republican politicians, with 28 years in the Florida Legislature.

Grayson's liberal views made him the darling of the left but a top target for Republicans.

Please continue to be a forceful voice for reason and good. You were ousted because you scared the crap out of the Republicans. They could not allow someone of your stature and outspoken nature to survive to teach other Democrats how they should really behave in Congress.
