all the way down to the coaches on the front lines.'SAN ANTONIO - A football coach must be held accountable for actions of his players during recruiting visits, and a team should be punished by formal NCAA sanctions for incidents of underage drinking or sexual misconduct involving prospects, according to Myles Brand, president of college sports' governing body.
"You can't legislate morals. But what you can legislate is behavior," Brand said Thursday.
The University of Colorado football program has been under the microscope since revelations of alcohol abuse and sex at a 2001 party that was attended by recruits led to accusations of rape. CU coach Gary Barnett has been suspended with pay, pending the findings of an independent panel assigned by the school.
