Feingold will not seek office in 2012

Nov. 04It was a surprisingly upbeat Russ Feingold who late Tuesday conceded the loss of the U.S. Senate seat he held for 18 years to Republican Ron Johnson.

Quoting folk singer Bob Dylan, Feingold declared that his heart is "not weary  it's light and free."

What he said next during his short concession speech left the crowd wondering whether they would soon see the Democratic senator back on the campaign trail.

"I hope and I intend to continue to work with all of you in the future as much as possible," Feingold told about 300 supporters at the Madison Marriott West. "So it's onto the next fight. It's onto the next battle. It's onto 2012. And it is on to our next adventure  forward!"

Still can't believe it but maybe something better is in store for him.

Thank you so much Russ. You were one on a very short list who was correct on most issues. You deserved to retire on your own schedule. Wisconsinites owed you that much.

Feingold was at least 100 yrs ahead of our time, if not centuries.

If Republicrats and Demlicabs keep lurching further abd further right, 100 years ago will not be a pretty picture.

I hope he runs again at some point, in some capacity...we need him.

Feingold is a great leader.

The democratic nomination is his -- or any other Dem -- for the taking.

Because otherwise you really need to get outside the bubble.

He'd never run against Obama or Kohl. Maybe he'll go after Bachman.

It would be perfect for Feingold.

She is from some Minnesota district, not Wisconsin.

He's one of the very few Dems who really "get it" on all the important issues, not just the usual ones. Honestly, as hard as it is to say, I'd have traded Boxer before I'd have given up Feingold.
