Bachmann Supports Tax Cut Compromise, But Not if Tied to Unemployment Benefits
Source: ABC

The leader of the House Tea Party Caucus said she would support a compromise on extending the Bush era tax cuts – but not if they are tied to an extension of the unemployment benefits.

“I would like to get the current tax policy extended as far into the future as we possibly can. If we can only get it extended for two years I think that is great but I don’t think that the American people should have to pay for that by having to have some new massive spending tied to it,” Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota told me. “If that’s the case I don’t think you are going to see the Republicans go along with it.”

The unemployment benefits will start expiring at the end of the month and Democrats have floated the idea of attaching an extension of the benefits to the tax cuts.

I asked Bachmann why she would support a tax cut for the wealthiest but not throw her support behind unemployment benefits – she said that Americans have misconstrued who those “wealthiest” really are.

3. Absolutely correct
That is the exact 'compromise' the Republicans want. Extend it for two years then the Republicans can run on 'the Democrats want to raise your taxes and they will do it if you elect a Democratic President'. If the Democratic leadership can't see this then they should be replaced immediately.

2. She was totally wrong on her description of the rich.
She made the same mistake that others have made by quoting gross income, not taxable income. I can make one million a year in my business but only will only be taxed on my income of $200,000 after deductions. George Stupid did not challenge her on this misconception.

5. When it comes to PEOPLE'S LIVES we cannot compromise
If a rich person's life is worth more than a poor persons, then we might as well just hang our heads and trudge home.

9. This doesn't sound right..if they extend the tax cuts for the top,
there would be nothing to spend any "excess" on..it would be no excess. There would only be an excess if the top tax cuts were to expire.

10. As if anyone even doubted it, George Stephanopoulos is a corporate whore too, I guess he wants
to protect his own tax cut for the greedy as well. This guy is just another miscreant that unfortunately dances through life without a second thought about the harm he does to our nation. Just one time I would like to see this kind of punk get his ass royally kicked to put the fear of God in him but it never happens to this breed of pretty-boy who our culture protects and rewards. I need to hold back from revealing how I really feel about this sniveling, hypocritical ass-wipe. I also need to once again not read the Democratic Underground since it will only get much worse from here on out. The country now wants someone like Bush the Idiot back in the White House, I'm pulling for Sarah so that the all the rednecks and Dino’s get the kind of government they really want and deserve. It does not matter what gets said now, the deal is already made and the cuts will be extended for the wealthy through the next elections cycle (with the pukes then taking the senate and WH too, then the cuts will be made permanent). This will protect BO and every other member of congress from having to do the right thing and then not have the money people contribute to their re-election campaign. Turn out the lights the Democratic Party is over.

11. Well of course. Continue to give tax breaks to the every rich but cut off unemployment benefits for
the very poor. That's par for the course. And these are the people who just got elected to control the House. It's very sad.
