I.Coast in lockdown as leaders reject vote results
Source: AFP

ABIDJAN (AFP) – Ivory Coast was in lockdown Friday with ports, borders, and airports sealed and foreign broadcasts jammed as President Laurent Gbagbo's allies rejected election results that showed him beaten by his rival.

World powers sharpened their warnings to Ivorian leaders to settle the dispute peacefully, but the chaos in the west African state deepened after days of bloodshed and fraud allegations that have disrupted the landmark vote.

"The land, air and sea borders are closed to all movement of people and goods from this Thursday at 8:00 pm (2000 GMT) until further notice," the army said in a declaration on state television.

Shortly afterwards foreign television news channels including France 24 and CNN as well as Radio France International went off the air in Ivory Coast. An official statement said this was to "keep the peace."

2. Ivory Coast election: Army says it has sealed borders
Source: BBC

The Ivorian military has sealed the country's borders and cut international media as tensions rise over the outcome of the presidential election run-off.

It comes after the Constitutional Court rejected a declaration by the electoral commission that opposition candidate Alassane Ouattara had won. Supporters of President Laurent Gbagbo had tried to block the long-delayed result, alleging fraud in the north.

The UN Security Council asked both sides to show restraint.

"The air, land and sea border of the country are closed to all movement of people and goods," Ivorian military spokesman Babri Gohourou said.

3. Gbagbo doesn't want to leave power and everything depends on the Constitutional Court now
which is ruled by his ally.

Will he dare? Will he cancel the election? The civil war could easily restart.

4. That's it
180° turn. The Constitutional Court declared that Gbagbo won the election. Civil war may be coming.
