Black graduates from Harvard and Yale thrown out of nightclub
A group of black graduates and students from Harvard and Yale universities had a party at a nightclub in Boston shut down because the owners said it invited attracting the "wrong crowd".

By Jon Swaine, New York 9:05PM GMT 03 Dec 2010

Alumni from Harvard and Yale, many of whom held doctorates, were turned away despite holding tickets for the event, which was held after the annual American Football match between the two colleges last month.

The incident, which prompted a black student leader to express dismay about "what this event says about race relations in our country", is now being investigated by the Massachusetts Attorney General.

Triumph, the student group behind the event, said that at 10.30pm managers from The Cure Lounge claimed to recognise local gang members among the queue, and began demanding to see university identification.

The organisers said that returning alumni no longer had university credentials, but stressed that a strict guest list was in place to ensure only those who had pre-purchased tickets could attend.

2. Here's the Crimson (Harvard student paper) article
http://www.thecrimson.com/article/2010/11/30/event-club-harvard-promoters/

This gives a somewhat different view of it from the Telegraph's story, for whatever that's worth.

17. That's the Harvard Crimson's coverage of the club's reply; here's their first article about the ban
http://www.thecrimson.com/article/2010/11/23/harvard-club-students-black/

which agrees with the Telegraph article, I'd say.

students always attract the bad element in the city when they go out to clubs..especially when they are black students.

:sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm:

Please.... don't flame me, I put up the sarcasm icon... and I meant THAT part of me post.

Seriously, I have never seen an area, (my area) so uptight in denial about their overt racism, we all remember Professor Gates a year and a half ago and the Cambridge Police arrest.... well you get my point.

8. Why would Michael Vick be there? If you have something you wish you could say,
why not say it directly, instead of trying to hint at it?

We're not expected to be psychic here. Either speak plainly or don't bother.

5. The Boston area
has a lot of racism there. It's not overt as in some areas, but once that shit gets stirred up it stinks just like any other racist area of the country.

the stench of racism that is so often officially denied by the pols, well, it's still there

Charles Stewart and his killing his wife, blaming it on a "black guy" 1988

Professor Gates, and the Cambridge Police Dept handcuffed arrest of the distinguished man with a physical disability in front of his own home.. 2009.

A dozen more ... and always it's a cover up of how stupid the gullible media and police are.

13. Rand "Right to Discriminate" Paul giggled.
And i thought that racism disappeared with the Civil Rights Acts. This is terrible. And seriously, blacks in America just can't escape the hate even after all that hard work. If the group were not black, would they be considered the "wrong crowd"? Doubt it.

19. They're surprised that racism extends even to graduates of prestigious
colleges?

Hmm. Some bubble they live in.

Until profiling is disallowed for everyone, no need for the "elite" to feel picked on.

21. Theater District club faces bias allegation
AG’s office looks into complaints
By Shelley Murphy
Globe Staff / December 4, 2010

The state attorney general’s office is investigating allegations of racial discrimination against operators of a Boston nightclub, who are accused of abruptly shutting down a private party by a group of African-American students and alumni from Harvard and Yale over concerns it was attracting “gang bangers.’’

A spokesman for Attorney General Martha Coakley said yesterday that the office received “multiple complaints’’ about the way the group was treated on Nov. 20 at the newly opened Cure Lounge, in the basement of the Wilbur Theater on Tremont Street.

“Our civil rights division is reviewing those complaints,’’ said Grant Woodman, a spokesman for Coakley’s office.

Dot Joyce, a spokeswoman for Mayor Thomas M. Menino, said city licensing officials, who had been urged by a city councilor this week to look into the episode, are “working closely with the attorney general’s office.’’ ...
