Way Cleared For Tax Cut Bill; Energy Breaks Added
Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The White House and key lawmakers in both parties cleared the way Thursday night for swift Senate action to avert a Jan. 1 spike in income taxes for most Americans, agreeing to renew expiring breaks for ethanol and other forms of alternative energy.

Tax provisions aimed at increasing production of hybrid automobiles, biodiesel fuel, energy-efficient homes, coal and energy-efficient household appliances would be extended through the end of 2011 under the bill, according to a summary that circulated in Congress.

Officials said debate could begin on the measure within hours. There was no timetable for a final vote, but the decision to expand the scope of the original bill capped days of secret negotiations aimed at increasing support.

1. GOD DAMNIT
MORE TAX GIVE-AWAYS TO THE FUCKING RICH!

"Tax provisions aimed at increasing production of hybrid automobiles, biodiesel fuel, energy-efficient homes, coal and energy-efficient household appliances would be extended through the end of 2011 under the bill, according to a summary that circulated in Congress."

I CAN'T AFFORD A HYBRID CAR BECAUSE I'M UNEMPLOYED
I DON'T USE BIODIESEL, AND CAN'T AFFORD A CAR THAT DOES.
I CAN'T AFFORD NEW APPLIANCES EITHER

But the rich sure as hell can, and we'll just keep shoveling money into their fucking pockets and shitting on the poor and middle class.

10. This just says the Senate
Edited on Thu Dec-09-10 09:02 PM by Liberalynn
It doesn't mean the House will end their opposition right? This just says the Senate, not the House. I was hoping however that the Senate take a courage pill and stand up with their House colleagues.

20. What does it matter whether the House will pass it or reject it?
This is just the lame duck session. Repuglicans will pass it in early January anyway.

16. Another concession to the Republicans
"Grassley's staff held out for the tax credit against strong pressure. A bipartisan coalition of Democrats and Republicans in the Senate earlier called for ending the tax credit, which will cost more than $5 billion this year. Grassley and other supporters of the ethanol industry have argued that the tax credit creates jobs and adds more to the economy than any federal savings if the credit expired."

22. All just corporate giveaways
The ethanol raises costs for the average consumer and doesn't help the environment.

The hybrid autos haven't paid yet. They do save energy, but not that much compared to the huge subsidy, and much less than if that subsidy were diverted to other uses (such as conservation efforts). Energy-efficient homes helps somewhat and is better than the first two, but at this point this subsidy is really aiding those who don't need the money that much.

We are just locked into giving money to corporations. All you hear is corporate oinking. We've made lobbying Congress the most profitable industry in the country.

I am so tired of this. The ethanol is really BAD policy.
