Senate passes $858 billion tax-cut bill
Wed Dec 15, 2010 1:40pm EST

By Kim Dixon and Richard Cowan

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A deal that President Barack Obama struck with Republicans to extend expiring tax cuts for nearly every working American and spur job growth sailed through the U.S. Senate on Wednesday.

Senators voted 81 to 19 to pass the bill, with Republicans and Democrats backing the tax breaks in a rare show of bipartisan support.

The drama now moves to the House of Representatives, where many of Obama's fellow Democrats are still angry with him for cutting the deal with Republicans without them.

Still, most House Republicans are expected to back the bill and Democrats in that chamber are becoming more resigned to passage of the $858 billion package, which is expected to boost economic growth next year but add to the budget deficit.

12. Almost $3,000 per person in the USA, money they are giving to the rich on loan from China.
Be sure to call you banker today and ask for your $3,000 loan (per person in your family), or just have them send it directly to themselves and to send the bill with interest to your kids.

SENATE FUNDING BILL INCLUDES $8 BILLION IN NEW NUCLEAR LOANS

VOTE LIKELY THIS WEEK; TELL THE SENATE NO MORE TAXPAYER BAILOUTS FOR NUCLEAR POWER!

December 15, 2010

Dear Friends,

Here is a brief update on last-ditch efforts by nuclear power interests to get their hands on more taxpayer money this year:

As we reported last week, the House passed a Continuing Resolution to keep funding the government that included $7 Billion in new taxpayer loans for nuclear reactor construction. The Senate is following a different approach, called an Omnibus funding bill, that would provide $8 Billion in nuclear loans. The Senate is expected to vote on the Omnibus bill later this week.

Please tell your Senators now to strip this bill of its nuclear funding, or vote against the bill entirely. We have updated our action page and letter to the Senate to take this new development into account.

Everyone in Washington claims to be concerned about the federal deficit, yet too many can't seem to stop their spending on nuclear power. Let's all raise our voices and make clear taxpayers don't want to risk our money on new nuclear reactors.

Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed to our Holiday fundraising drive. If you haven't yet contributed, I hope you will do so now here, or after you send your letter (and make a call to your Senators too!). I also hope you will consider becoming a monthly donor. A contribution of just $5 or $10/month really adds up for NIRS while being much easier on your wallets too. We rely on your support to do this work and pay our bills; so please donate as generously as you can this holiday season.

Thank you for all you do,

Michael Mariotte

62. no, we "oldies" stopped the building of new nukes for a reason in the 70s
no one wants the nuke waste, human error, impossible to protect from terrorism, expensive to build so the nuke corp's want taxpayers to foot the bills, mining uranium is environmentally destructive and unsafe health-wise, keeping radioactive materials out of the hands of terrorists for dirty bombs also impossible...the list goes on and on and on.

I couldn't access it through the "active legislation" section though.

Both senators of California voted yes for that bill, and even other liberal Democrats like John Kerry, Al Franken, Carl Levin, and Dick Durbin voted yes too.

49. "TEAM PELOSI"...I have a question...
Actually I have a few questions but they all revolve around one general point...

Are you going to attack Pelosi like you have been attacking Obama if she allows the tax cuts for the wealthy to be extended?

Will you still be a proud member of "Team Pelosi"?

I wonder how many "Greatest Threads" there will be filled with ultra-hyperbolic attacks on Pelosi if she does not kill any bill that allows the wealthy to get their tax cut extensions?

Or will loyal Pelosi fans, "Team Pelosi", be satisfied if she does allow the tax cut extension for the wealthy to pass as long as she & other Democrats "show boat" in front of the press to show their disgust & maybe "tweak" the bill a little just to show "independence" from the Senate?

As far as I know there were no bad words said about Pelosi when she decided not to hold a vote on ending the Bush Tax Cuts for the wealthy prior to the election...I wonder if this time will be different?
