Bush camp pleased -- sees Kerry taking California for granted | SF Gate
John Kerry's campaign cheered some good news last week: It raised a record $50 million in the first quarter of the year -- a good part of it in California.

...

"We do not need to spend as much as the president does, because the three years of the Bush administration are very fresh in the minds of the voters,'' Cahill said. But some concerned Democrats note it's the Bush people who appear to take nothing for granted in California -- home to many major media markets and (they note) some of the nation's most deep-pocketed donors. Already, Republicans have something Kerry doesn't in California -- an aggressive ground operation in place for the fall election.

4. When you have $200 million...
... you need to spend it on something, right?

I mean, it's not like America has the highest rate of homeless and hungry children and young adults than any other industrialized nation; so it's good that Mr. Bush's camp is using the money on the important things.

3. Bush can forget about California
Especially after he allowed his corporate looter buddies to RIP THEM OFF ROYAL with that whole electricity scam.

He's treated CA and NY like CRAP! I don't know why anyone in either state would vote for him.

5. I hope that bush spends 100 million there.
it will just be a waste of 100 million bucks.

The rate things are going its going to be difficult enough for bush to compete in states that were pro-bush in 2000. he might as will just write off all the blue states.

come have fun humiliating rightwingers! look me up! (benden)

6. As a California resident.....
...I can vouch that the state, and even large parts of the Bay Area for that matter, still have lots of wingnuts.

Only very recently did California become a reliable Democratic stronghold. It was pretty solidly Republican for a long time and even now large parts of the state -- particularly inland and the Central Valley -- are pretty much just like the Midwest or the South.

7. Don't forget Arnold
Kerry needs to remember that Californians elected Arnold. He shouldn't have to blow a lot here, but he needs to keep on eye on us over here.

8. They said the same thing four years ago
and look where it got them. A lot of empty yammering from the puppetmasters. They keep thinking that if they keep repeating something it will be accepted as truth. I think that worked for awhile. But those days are over...

10. California needs a grassroots Dem
organization. I think we are fools if we don't take advantage of the Dem outrage and build an organization. We have a once in a lifetime opportunity. Yes, I'm telling the party this. I don't think * will win unless their is a nationwide landslide. We are not a swing state.

12. The governor had requested 6 months before the great forest
fire (that killed people and left others homeless, not even counting all the wonderful animals) for financial help from the feds to cut down those dying trees. He was turned down the day before the blaze began. Californians should despise Bush.

15. 100% Pure Unadulterated Political Maneuvering and Propoganda Going On Here
This is propoganda put out by Rove PURELY for Kerry's consumption. Rove wants Kerry to believe that they are going to seriously make a play for CA so Kerry wastes resources there defending it. Hello?!

23. The icy tobaggon trip down the slope is difficult, but you can steer some.
Really won't matter though, the dense forest * is headed to, steering will be the least of the worries.

WATCH OUT BELOW,the big thump is coming ;-)

16. they do internal polls, if kerry isn't doing well, he will campaign here
they keep internal polls and if it looks like kerry isn't leading by a comfortable margin then i'm sure they will change strategies and campaign more here.

22. Kerry won't campaign; he'll just do what Gore did in CA -
he won't take the bait. Bush spent $15 million in California during the last election. They kept printing stories, "Bush is making a play for California," "Bush creeping up on Gore in California." Gore didn't take the bait. The only time he ever showed up in California was to do celebrity fundraisers so he could walk out with a couple of million bucks. Never spent a cent in California on anything. Won the state by 12 points.
