Anti-Gay Group Accused Of Cheating Own Lawyers (Christian Coalition)
(Virginia Beach, Virginia) A law firm has asked a Virginia judge to seize the assets of the Christian Coalition to collect more than $75,000 in unpaid legal costs.

The firm of Huff, Poole and Mahoney says the coalition, one of the most vocal anti-gay organizations in the county, is seeking a garnishee of assets to pay bills that it says it is owed.

David M. Zobel, an attorney with the Virginia Beach firm, said the fees were from “a combination of several accounts owed on several files.” Zobel would not say if any of the unpaid work was dealing with gay issues.

1. The Christian Coalition won't have trouble coughing up the fine, dagnabbit
Don't forget their leader, Pat Robertson, is wealthy beyond his fondest dreams, appearing to have spent his life pursuing money with a vengeance.

Hasn't left him a lot of time to do much thinking, as these quotes should tell you:
"The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism, and become lesbians." -- Pat Robertson, fundraising letter, 1992

(talking about apartheid South Africa) "I think 'one man, one vote,' just unrestricted democracy, would not be wise. There needs to be some kind of protection for the minority which the white people represent now, a minority, and they need and have a right to demand a protection of their rights."--Pat Robertson, "The 700 Club," 3/18/92

"Just like what Nazi Germany did to the Jews, so liberal America is now doing to the evangelical Christians. It's no different. It is the same thing. It is happening all over again. It is the Democratic Congress, the liberal-based media and the homosexuals who want to destroy the Christians. Wholesale abuse and discrimination and the worst bigotry directed toward any group in America today. More terrible than anything suffered by any minority in history."--Pat Robertson, 1993 interview with Molly Ivins

"The Constitution of the United States, for instance, is a marvelous document for self-government by the Christian people. But the minute you turn the document into the hands of non-Christian people and atheistic people they can use it to destroy the very foundation of our society. And that's what's been happening." -- Pat Robertson, The 700 Club, Dec. 30, 1981

4. No, they'll have problems
Pat Robertson isn't the head of the Christian Coalition. I'm actually not sure who is, or if they even still exist. I thought they went belly-up after the '96 election. Other Christian Right organizations have stepped up to take their place, and Ralph Reed has moved on to winning elections for the GOP.

5. Oh they still exist all right.
There Web site: http://www.cc.org/mission.cfm

The current president of the CC is Roberta Combs. And Pat Robertson was the founder of the CC back in 1989.

3. Here's Hoping Other R-Wingers Use Such Book Keeping
Here's hoping that Focus on the Family, the Traditional Values Coalition, and other right-wing reactionary groups get caught using such forms of creative book keeping, and that they get put through the legal wringer by their outraged creditors.
