‘Muslim terrorist’ on Air Malta plane turns out to be Caribbean Christian
by Noel Grima

The story that made the rounds of the world that a Muslim man was apprehended on an Air Malta plane when he persisted in praying out aloud in the aisle just as the plane was taxying to take off at London’s Heathrow Airport, now has to be revised.

It was a Caribbean Christian man, Maria Busuttil who was on the plane with him, told The Times. And the prayer he was chanting was the ‘Our Father’.

Yet even yesterday on In-Nazzjon, Brian Grech who had a hand in restraining the man, still insisted the man was an Arab Muslim.

Writing on The Times comment pages yesterday, Ahmed Sain wrote: “For all of you who made a comment yesterday on this subject, I think you got it all wrong regarding this man’s religion. Now you guys ask for forgiveness.”

3. Loudly Chanting the "Our Father" Prayer in the Aisle of a Crowded Plane?
Sounds like terrorism to me. Maybe not Muslim terrorism, but terrorism all the same.

4. Was he worried he might be on one of the 767s with the bogus parts maybe?

Al Jazeera has conducted an investigation into claims that more than 1,500 of the world's most commonly-used passenger planes, the Boeing 737NG, were built with ill-fitting and illegal parts. Two whistleblowers who used to work for Boeing spoke to Al Jazeera's People & Power programme. Al Jazeera has also uncovered internal Boeing documents which seem to support the claims - and others which appear to show that the US government itself has been helping Boeing to cover up the problems.

5. Anyone praying audibly in the aisle of a crowded plane would creep me out.
I don't care if it's a hail mary, kaddish, salat or reciting the wiccan rede. Time and a place for everything folks, and that ain't it.

12. Anyone in the aisle during taxi should be removed - period

It doesn't matter what they are doing.

No one is to be in the aisle during taxi.

8. WTF was he doing in the aisle during taxi?

I don't care if he was praying, singing, or doing yoga. During taxi, all pax are required to be seated.

Passenger causes disturbance on Air Malta aircraft
An Air Malta flight from London Heathrow had to return to the terminal this afternoon following a disturbance by a passenger.
The man got to his knees and started chanting, apparently in Arabic, and ignored instructions by the purser to return to his seat.
According to reports there was a 'panic' among some passengers. The aircraft returned to its terminal slot.
It had been taxing and preparing for take-off at the time of the incident

Dec 22

An Air Malta flight had to return to the gate at London's Heathrow airport after a passenger left his seat to pray in the aisle.

The Malta-bound plane was already three hours behind schedule, due to traffic delays caused by weather conditions at Heathrow, and had finally been cleared for take-off when the passenger knelt down in prayer.

The man, who was reportedly chanting in Arabic, ignored flight crew instructions to return to his seat.

There were reports the man was restrained by fellow passengers and crew. The captain returned the plane to the gate.

By Dec 23, however

“When my husband got on the plane and sat near me, he told me there was a man chanting Christian prayers on his knees in the passenger bridge leading to the aircraft,” she said.
The couple thought nothing more of it until after the seatbelt check, when the plane began taxiing and the same man got moved onto the aisle, prompting the purser to ask him to return to his seat.
The man, who had dark skin and dreadlocks, was holding an orange Sainsbury’s plastic bag, which some passengers feared could have contained some sort of explosive.
“He didn’t want to take his seat. He was on his knees, shouting ‘Our Father who art in heaven’, as if he were a preacher... It was like he was saying his last prayer before he dies... it was very scary.”

11. It doesn't matter that he was praying - the fact is he left his seat during taxi

and should have been removed from the plane for that reason alone.

And praying at the top of your lungs during take off makes you a religious nut case.... regardless of the religion. Like Christians are not capable of terrorist acts. Unstable people should not be allowed to upset everyone else. (That goes for security personnel too)

17. The two main features of this stupidity are;
Edited on Fri Dec-24-10 02:23 PM by ooglymoogly
The fear propaganda of all Muslim terrorism, completely glossing over the christofascist arms of the born "agin" terrorist element; and the fact that for any organized religious claptrap; the act was highly and dangerously inappropriate. To blame that ignorant act on whoever the big boogie man of the day and of the government, is, in itself criminal and sadly fits the mold of our daily, 24/7 dose of fear and propaganda pablum.
