Mass. lieutenant governor rescues children from burning van
Source: Yahoo

Tim Murray, the lieutenant governor of Massachusetts, was driving through Worcester with his wife and two children last night when he spotted smoke coming from a parked minivan. Immediately, he pulled over and sprang into action.

According to The Boston Globe, Murray was calling 911 when he heard someone shout that children were inside the burning vehicle. He ran to the minivan, pulled the children out and took them to their grandmother, who was standing nearby.

The unidentified woman, who was driving the minivan before the left front tire burst into flames, nearly attacked Murray during the rescue attempt.

"She told me 'I didn't know if you were trying to take the kids or take the car. I was about to punch you,'" Murray said in the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. Murray then downplayed his heroic role, saying he did "pretty much what anyone else would have done if they had come upon it."

4. The second time he's done this...
from the article:

"This is the second time Murray has been hailed for assisting people in need. In April 2009, he helped a woman out of her car after she suffered a medical emergency on the interstate and crashed into three vehicles and a piece of construction equipment. He then stayed with the ailing driver until help arrived, WHDH.com reported."

:)

Does anyone need me to say it?

He's a Democrat.

32. Repig? No, as a right-wing slanted network FNC would use R to glorify the Lt Gov
Last year, FNC mistakenly labelled South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford as a Democrat (Sanford's really a Republican) during coverage of his news conference admitting that he had an affair in South America.

9. Let's see how the conservatives try to spin this.
I'm not going to go so far as to say a Republican wouldn't rescue kids from a burning van...

as long as they paid their burning van insurance...

Edited on Wed Jan-05-11 06:45 PM by karynnj
He joked about that in this video when he was with Kerry at a 2008 veteran's event in Worcester. http://www.jkmediasource.org/node/162 Murray is there at the beginning. About 3 minutes in Kerry teases him that he is the best Lt Governor since 1982. (I assume Kerry meant 1984)

He then spoke of the work that he did with Murray on getting right of way on tracks that let them get more trains between Boston and Worcester.

30. The story is
that she pulled over in front of a friend's house, got out and walked to the front door. She apparently did not know that the tire was smoking. When she saw Lt. Governor Murray opening the car door, (not knowing right away who it was) she got frightened and started toward him. It was only then that she saw the fire.

Rush will be ranting about this being another example of Big Government (Democrats, naturally - their "code" isn't subtle) trying to run people's lives.

37. Here is a news item involving me and Tim Murray
Many of you may know that I am a long time DUer and the president of my union which represent workers at a racetrack in Boston. The videos here have expired but there is still some remnants of a news story in the local press in 2006 when we endorsed and I spoke for then Candidate for Lt. Gov. Tim Murray. He's a great guy and I have had more than a dozen conversations with him since he was elected 4 years ago. I'll be seeing him tomorrow at his inauguration. Just thought you might be interested in a little DU input into this new story.
