Tucson hospital: Patient denied transplant coverage dies
Source: Arizona Daily Star, Tucson, AZ

Tucson's University Medical Center confirmed today that a patient
who was refused a liver transplant because of state budget cuts has died.

The death was "most likely" due to the defunding of the organ transplant,
said Jo Marie Gellerman, University of Arizona Department of Surgery spokeswoman.

She could not release any further information about the patient,
who was taken off the waiting list Oct. 1 when Arizona stopped paying
for certain organ transplants for patients covered by Medicaid.
The patient did not die at UMC but had been scheduled to have the transplant there.

The patient is the second person to reportedly die while waiting
for one of the transplants that were cut.

1. was this one who KO had interviewed?
So, incredibly tragic, but I think there will be many many deaths among those who are unemployed and uninsured, yet can not qualify for medicaid, as well as among the under insured, and those who simply can not bear the potential financial burden on family members during this economy.

But, medicaid is the only way for most of these transplants to be possible for many average people. May Brewer rot in hell. If there is no hell, may her karma come up with something similarly suitable.

4. Governor Death had her second kill?
What a fine, moral, Christian woman. As for the voters of Arizona, I dunno what to say. I've got Cuomo who, if the news had a moment of accuracy, is giving money to millionaires and taking it from working people. I so hope I heard wrong. New York may be days away from death panels of our own.

2. The politics in this state suck so bad
Edited on Wed Jan-05-11 09:12 PM by panader0
My twins were born in that same hospital.
There are so many great things about Arizona, but most of the politicians are horrible.

Sorry for the huge space, I don't know how to fix it.

6. Free Baja Arizona!!
Free Baja Arizona!!

http://www.bandersnatch.com/bajaz.htm

An enormous mistake was made on December 30, 1853 when the Gadsden Treaty was
signed between the United States and Mexico. The northern part of the Mexican
state of Sonora, an area located south of the Gila River, was purchased by the
United States, and tacked into what became the State of Arizona.

The people of the Gadsden Purchase have increasingly chafed under the domination
of an enormous population in an around Phoenix (Maricopa County). In order to end
the domination of Phoenix, the people of the Gadsden Purchase are seeking statehood.
Proclaiming themselves as Baja Arizona, a "state of mind" is acknowledged to exist.

The primary differences between Baja Arizona and the remainder of Arizona are of
attitude and tolerance. The people of Baja Arizona are known throughout the southwest
for their enlightened view of the world. This is obviously not the case with the
passage of SB 1070 making it illegal to be an illegal in Arizona.

In Baja Arizona people fight for civil rights. In Maricopa County they are jailing immigrants.

20. Don't insult L.A. like that!
I know it has it's problems but I still love that city.

Besides, Phoenix does have any beaches. . . or surfing!

10. If we gerrymander a corridor through Globe and Showlow,
across the rim and north,
We could hold the northeast quarter
from Flagstaff to Four Corners.

Sounds good to me.

14. I wonder if they were riding on the high of election and world-wide elation and
just didn't follow the thread.

I think there could have been other candidates for Homeland Security.
