Two Million Fish Found Dead In Maryland
Source: Sky News Via Yahoo News

Around two million fish have died in the Chesapeake Bay area in Maryland, just days after two similar incidents elsewhere in the US baffled scientists.

Officials are now trying to find out what happened.

Maryland Department of the Environment spokeswoman Dawn Stoltzfus told Sky News Online that at the moment it does not look like pollution is to blame.

She said: "The dead fish are mainly juvenile spot fish, and they can't survive very cold water temperatures. Typically they should have left the bay by now. Our working theory, that looks pretty strong, is that it's been caused by cold water stress."

This mass "fish kill", as it is called, happened after water temperatures plunged to near record lows in the area in late December, but scientists have yet to prove conclusively that this was the cause.

3. well scientists have been saying there's a mass extinction event going on now
maybe now we're able to see it because it's snowballed to a new level...............add this to those dead birds in several U.S. states, dead seagulls in California, some dead fish of a certain species, and now this. There's a tiny cute mouse like animal that can only live up high in the mountains, it's native to this hemisphere, but unless someone climbs its mountain habitat somewhere in South America with an air-conditioned kennel it's going to be extinct.

Maybe it is global warming and all these animals can't take sudden temperature changes, nor much lower than is normal. I think of it as more of Global Weather Destabilization.

6. Ironic LOL
Yeah, those poor red-winged blackbirds must have a certain limit of fireworks displays,
since we officially blow off, yearly, fireworks both on New Years and 4th of July,
they can tolerate. Then they --and just red-winged blackbirds-- drop from the sky!

I just hope your sig name, taken literally, doesn't come true... elephants are my favorite creatures after horses :(

9. I'm sure it's just fireworks.
Or lightning. Yeah, that's the ticket.

"Cold water stress". Same thing happens to me if I don't run the hot for a minute before I get in the shower. Damn juvenile spot fish just don't get it. Shoulda left the bay by now anyway.
