Obama predicts Chicago Bears will win 20-17
02:32 PM

By Mimi Hall, USA TODAY

President Obama is betting on his hometown Chicago Bears to win Sunday's game against their arch rivals, the Green Bay Packers.

Spokesman Robert Gibbs said the president will watch the game with family and staff members in the White House theater. Although Obama has not placed any bets on the game, Gibbs said the president predicts a 20-17 win for the Bears.

Is Obama still planning to go to the Super Bowl in Dallas if the Bears are headed that way for the Feb. 6 championship game?

Gibbs, citing his own hyper-superstitious nature, declined to commit.

Well, how the hell could I resist this story as an excuse to make an extremely important comment on the whole ridiculous violent hyper-commercialized patriotic F-16-flyover-madness testosterone-addled brutal head-smashing intelligence-lowering distraction-from-reality involved in the remaining three NFL games:

GO JETS!!!

1. If the Pack wins the Super Bowl that could make for an awkward WH ceremony
I don't see what the point of this is.

4. Um, maybe you don't see the "point"...
Edited on Thu Jan-20-11 03:47 PM by JackRiddler
because your "team" seems not to be the Bears, but the White House PR.

However, not everything's going to be a political calculation, ya know.

Showing a genuine rooting interest in this kind of completely inconsequential bull-dada is believed to help with the "real guy" demographic generally. I doubt fans of the Packers are unlikely to dislike Obama (if they don't already) just because he's rooting for his hometown. It would probably be a bad idea to root for the Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots or the New York Yankees, as these teams inspire a lot of hatred nationally.

8. Well, Packers very scary right now.
With any luck they'll cool off by February and the Jets will benefit.

But seriously. Can never begrudge the Steelers or Pittsburgh their due. Only that they're losing Sunday.

12. Possible. It all depends on which team shows up
The one that played the first half or the one that played the second half last week.

With Troy healthy, I just don't see the propellers beating my beloved at Heinz, in postseason, after winning the match in the regular season.

If I had any money I'd propose a wager. Lucky for you I don't.
