Udall indicates Senate is near compromise on filibuster rules
Source: The Hill

Sen. Mark Udall (D-Colo.), who lead an effort to curb the minority party’s ability to stall the Senate with parliamentary tactics, indicated in a press conference on Tuesday that the power to filibuster would not be drastically rolled back, but that the principle of “comity,” or reciprocity between parties would govern the way forward in the Senate of the 112th Congress.

“Yes,” Udall replied to a reporter’s question on whether or not broad support in the Senate for the bipartisan seating arrangement for the State of the Union was an “acknowledgment that filibuster is not going go be rolled back quite as some Democrats were asking but that you are going to look towards comity as way to break down the way the Senate works.”

Udall was one of the first in Congress to suggest the bipartisan seating arrangement shortly after the shooting in Tucson, Ariz.

Udall added that he had found among his colleagues general support for ending the practice of secret holds and for expediting Senate processing of executive branch and district judge nominees. Blocking nominees was one tactic often deployed by Republicans last Congress that many Senate Democrats considered unfair.

This is not what Sen. Menendez suggested would be happening when I had lunch with him earlier this month. Not going to be happy when they call me for my next DSCC contribution.

1. Did you think Menendez would tell you what his fall back position would be?
He had to present his party's position on filibuster, not the position the caucus would take when presented with alternatives by the Repugs.

Do you believe that Menendez could promise what the Senate would approve?? Or promise that what he wanted (his negotiating stance) would be what was enacted??

2. This was a political event...
...for big bucks contributors. I expect political honesty about what they're asking for AND what they think they can achieve.

3. then you're pretty silly, imo.
Or maybe you got what you say you expect, 'political' honesty, which differs from run-of-the-mill 'honesty,' but don't realize the difference.
Thanks for your work.

7. Not if he's smart...
...This isn't a standard rally with $50 tickets. These are some of the biggest contributors to the Party, can have a major impact if they pull their support.
