Gov. (Ahh-nuld) Wants a Part-Time Legislature
Edited on Wed Apr-07-04 03:37 PM by KamaAina
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=2026&ncid=2026&e=3&u=/latimests/20040407/ts_latimes/govwantsaparttimelegislature

WAILEA, Hawaii — Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (news - web sites) said Tuesday that he would like to make the California Legislature part-time so lawmakers would not have as much freedom to create so many "strange bills."...

"I want to make the Legislature a part-time Legislature," the governor said. "Spending so much time in Sacramento, without anything to do, then out of that comes strange bills. I like them when they're scrambling and they really have to work hard. Give them a short period of time. Then good work gets done, rather than hanging. That's when they start getting creative with things."...

"While I'm out here working my ass off, he's pontificating from Hawaii?" Senate President Pro Tem John Burton (D-San Francisco) quipped in Sacramento.

Wailea is an ultra-posh resort on Maui. Beats the heck out of Crawford, I guess.

No wonder Bush* likes this guy so much. Always on vacation, mouth in gear before brain is engaged -- what's not to like? </sarcasm>

Props to John Burton for giving me the title for any future talk show I do: "Live from Honolulu, it's 'Pontificating from Hawai'i' with your host, (KamaAina)!"

Edit: Must learn not to spell like Bush* or Ahh-nuld!

Yeah, life would be just great if Arnold could be our dictator over here in Kahlifonia. Too bad all of those legislators are in the way.

6. I hear we're already under the gun
Word on the street is he's planning to "Be ba-a-aaaaack" for our repuke convention in June. It isn't enough they shoved Gov.* Lingle (R-"Vacuum Bag") down our throats with a massive ad blitz (just like the one they used to kill same-sex marriage), now they're going for the Legislature (at least the House), too! It's almost enough to make me miss snow...

4. We've got a part time legislature...
...but we're 1/15th the size and 1/30th the population.

And even here it in effect means goverment by staffers and lobbyists.

In California, you would have to be crazy, or willing to rule by decree.

Forget I mentioned that last bit.

8. Texas has a tradition of "Citizen legislators"
The less time they spend in Austin, the less trouble they can cause.

13. "The nation's laboratory for bad government"
That's what Molly Ivins calls us. The legislature meets every other year. Maybe that meant something when one's ranch was so far from Austin, but it doesn't make sense nowadays.

Of course, we've got Governor Goodhair calling all those special sessions to make up for it. (He's also working to give the position of Governor more power; it's historically weak.)

18. The Governator is an actor, just recently elected to his post.
This does not mean he is a brilliant analyzer when it comes to a system long ago established.

From his lips come forth BS and we sheep supposed to suck it up?? Only in places where Facists rule.

even when the Dems were in control, they didn't get much done. It's a fiasco, every year.
