GAO says US-Canada border mostly insecure
Source: Boston Globe

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration has failed to adequately reinforce almost all of the US border with Canada to ensure against smuggling of weapons, drugs, illegal immigrants, and currency, a congressional report said.

The government has established an “acceptable level of security’’ for just 32 of the 4,000 miles that separate the United States from its northern neighbor, the Government Accountability Office said in a report yesterday.

1. I think they should round up all the teabaggers
as long as they want to stop all the illegals,
and put them in bunkers to stop the flow
of all those nasties to the north

9. I do not believe this. ...live near the Canadian border.
You know you will have to show your birth certificate or passport to get through and there is a good chance your car will be looked at inside and out. There are road blocks by the border patrol way down into the state. If you ask me, where they have no business checking.Maybe WE should have tanks lined up in the woods or something.

2. The GAO wasted money doing this study??
What was the point?

Unless it is now going to be used by the Fortify Our Sacred (or is it Scared?) Borders crowd to get more government spending.

5. Build a wall
If building a wall along the Canada/US border would keep American politicians and political ideologies out of Canada, I would gladly pay higher taxes to subsidize the cost of concrete for the wall. Also see this diary http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x4719205 on the meeting between Harper and Obama on a continental security perimeter. I would like to make an offer to our southern neighbours - we'll keep Celine Dion and Justin Bieber here in Canada if you keep Harper in the US. Surely there must be a spare cell at Gitmo you can keep him in.

Although before this country took to keeping shit on-tap for the purposes of soiling ourselves in fear on cue most discussion on the subject related to simply opening the border.

13. The PTB want to keep us in or make $ or build capacity.
Canada is one of best nations to be a resident, better than average than the USA easily.

I would head to Canada if not older and wedded to a location and community and probably not wanted frankly as too old and unhealthy and unwealthy.

Deleted my times in Canada in professional private corporate sector career for too much personal info. lol
