United, Senate Dems defeat health care repeal measure
Edited on Wed Feb-02-11 06:37 PM by cal04
Source: MSNBC

Carrie Dann writes:Senate Democrats remained united on Wednesday in killing a Republican effort to repeal the health care bill signed into law last March.

As expected, no Democrats voted against a procedural motion that effectively defeated a GOP amendment -- sponsored by Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and tacked on to an unrelated aviation bill -- to repeal the health legislation.

All Republicans voted together in favor of the McConnell-sponsored amendment. The vote was 47-51.

The House passed the repeal measure last month.

1. Now, can they get to work on moving this country forward, instead
of screwing around undoing the progress we've previously made?

The Repugs are wasting time and money with their silly games.

12. They want the economy
in the tank leading up to the 2012 election. One of the ways they will achieve this is through high energy prices. Drill baby drill!

7. and we got their votes
as a mail consultant, these pieces write themselves. Republican Senators voted to allow insurance companies to rescind health care coverage whenever they want. Republican Senators voted to allow insurers to refuse coverage for pre-existing conditions. Republican Senators voted to raise the cost of medicines for seniors by eliminated the donut hole fix.

8.  The GOP will continue to do nothing but play political games
while the working people and unemployed people are left with nothing.

The GOP feels NO responsibility to do anything other than play these games, and there is no reason to expect anything positive from them in the future.

17. This has nothing to do with "balls" or "spine"
This is just a reflection of the fact that the Senate's rules make it much easier to prevent legislation than to enact it. In case the preceding 2 years didn't make that clear.

15. Shall we take a moment to marvel?
I'm honestly floored that the Dems stood as one, for once. I was expecting a repeat of the divisiveness seen when HCR was under construction. Bravo, Dems! (Now keep doing that!)

18. Opportunity waisted??
Am I mistaken, but wasn't this a perfect opportunity to turn the tables on the Repubs and give them a little taste of their own medicine in regards to filibustering?? I don't get it?

20. Just got notice BCBS is raising out premium by $400 a month!
That will make our premiums cost $1,330 a month! That will force us to drop and there's nowhere else we can go except to the gove sponsored plan which costs $748 a person a month.

Okay, so things like that happen all the time. Still, anything that provides a figurative pie in the face to the Chinless Wonder and his minions is A-OK by me.
