GOP Backs Massive Tax Increase To Phase Out Abortion Coverage By Private Insurers
Source: TPM

The House GOP continues to place its heaviest emphasis on fighting abortion rights, and they've taken a lot of heat for it. Progressives, Democrats, pro-choice groups, and others have spared little criticism, but they've focused most heavily on three distinct lines: the fact that Republicans are ignoring job-creation as a priority; the fact that one of their pieces of legislation would allow hospitals to refuse to perform an abortion on a dying woman; and the fact that, until recently at least, the GOP wanted to limit tax-payer support for abortion to exclude incidences of non-forcible rape.
Here's another one: The GOP's plan to ban tax-payer money from funding abortions includes giant tax hikes for businesses.
More specifically, it would eliminate tax incentives on employer-provided health care benefits if those benefits cover abortion as a medical procedure.Supporters of the bill say those incentives essentially constitute federal spending on abortion.
"We want to live up to our commitment to make sure that there is no government funding of abortion," said House Majority Leader Eric Cantor. "And the provision that you speak to does have some connect with a government's support and funding of abortion."

2. They don't care that they're raising taxes on businesses

This is a back-alley gambit to pressure private businesses to give up abortion coverage in their plans altogether. :puke:
I am reassured that Democrats, even some anti-abortion ones in the Senate, are publicly resisting this and I hope that they prevail. The EO that President Obama already signed to placate Stupak and his BD minions in order to ensure final passage of PPACA prohibits federal funding for abortions consistent with already established law but the Republicans are strrrrretching the law to make it appear that providing tax credits to insurance companies whose plans cover abortion is the same thing as "funding" abortion coverage. Very slick and very disgusting.

4. More "raw meat" for the "base"
It tells you a lot about the real commitment to smaller government and individual liberties, that these chumps:dunce: will ingnore their "principles" in order to make hypocritical, moralist policy to please a small minority of the electorate.:grr:
Today it's abortion, tomorrow it's birth control, then sex ed. :grr:

5. but they're against any suggestions
to temper sugar in your child's diet? These people are such demagogues. How about we defund those who issue Viagra?
Abortions went down under Clinton. The way you do it is to raise all boats. People with decent incomes and health insurance that doesn't cripple their salaries make better decisions. Under Bush they went up because quality of life for the living went down. The GOP is responsible for the rise of abortions but they won't take responsibility for it. Tax cuts for the ubers but no health care for you. Big bonuses for the corporate crooks but no jobs for you.
They're disgusting.
