Republicans push energy, science, IRS cuts
Source: Reuters

Environmental protection, scientific research, renewable energy programs and the Internal Revenue Service would face steep budget cuts under a spending plan released by Republicans in the House of Representatives on Wednesday.

The cuts would fall on wide swaths of the federal government as Republicans aim to trim a budget deficit that is expected to hit a record $1.5 trillion this year.

The proposed spending cuts would add up to more than $74 billion when compared to the budget submitted last year by President Barack Obama. But that budget was never enacted and the government has been running on a temporary funding bill that mostly froze spending at last year's level. The temporary funding bill expires on March 4.

1. UPDATE
In a surprise move, Rep. Michele Bachmann(R-MN) holding a Bible above her head, stepped up to the microphone and said, "With this book we do not need any more laws so I have introduced a bill to get rid of the United States government. Everything that we ever need to know is written down for us right here on these pages."

4. Most tax cheats make less than 100.000/yr
So that's where we're gonna focus our collection & enforcement efforts.

OK, nobody actually said that, but how else can you take cuts to IRS as orchestrated by Republicans

All piles of money must be tapped for profit.
All research that alienates the people from the inherent goodness of corporations is evil.

Screw the environment, science, advancement... and defund the agency responsible for collecting revenue during record deficits! Brilliant.

15. House Republicans Seek to Cut Funds for Environment, Energy, Health Care
Source: Bloomberg

House Republicans want to reduce the U.S. deficit by ending more than 60 programs, including President Barack Obama’s high-speed rail initiative, and cutting funds for the environment, energy, health care and law enforcement.

After releasing a partial list of proposed cuts yesterday, Republicans are scheduled today to spell out their full plan to trim at least $35 billion from the deficit, which is projected to reach $1.5 trillion this year. Republicans say the measure also will bar the Obama administration from spending any money to implement the 2010 health-care overhaul.

Republicans propose ending funds for the public service AmeriCorps, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and a program that provides contraceptives to low-income families. The Environmental Protection Agency’s budget would be cut by 16 percent below what Obama has requested.

“We will respond to the millions of Americans who have called on this Congress to rein in spending to help our economy grow,” House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers, a Kentucky Republican, said in a statement. He also said, “Every dollar we cut has a constituency, an industry, an association or individual citizens who will disagree.”

Just as we predicted. The cuts will be ALL on OUR programs and NONE for defense or the sprawling global police state!

The only thing left they have to do is give MORE tax cuts to the RICH!

Any Democrat who votes for this should be tarred and feathered!

16. Very disgusting...
The working poor, the majority of this country, should not have to pay for the sins of the financial elite who prematurely caused the global economic meltdown in the first place.

After a few years of the these austerity measures, I would hope the people of this country will rise up PEACEFULLY, perhaps occupy Washington, D.C., picnicking for Peace and Social Justice (take that Glenn Beck) so that we can finally realize a government of the people and for the people.

17. why don't these jerks give up their taxpayer funded paychecks and truly become
public servants?

that would definitely be the first place to cut money from the budget.
