9/11 panel asks White House to declassify key document
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The 9/11 commission has asked the White House to declassify the presidential daily briefing -- called a "PDB" -- of August 6, 2001, titled "Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States."

The memo was brought up frequently during national security adviser Condoleezza Rice's three hours of testimony before the commission Thursday, with Rice repeatedly insisting the PDB was "not a warning."

"I am asking you whether it is not the case that you learned in the PDB memo of August 6th that the FBI was saying that it had information suggesting that preparations ... were being made consistent with hijackings within the United States," said commissioner Richard Ben-Veniste. (Main story: Rice testifies before 9/11 commission)

<snip>
The memo contained a "discussion" on whether al Qaeda might use hijacking to try to free a prisoner in the United States, and it said that "the FBI had full field investigations under way," she said.

2. Today, one of the commissioners stated that the PDB....
in question, was received blacked out and the pertiment information is in question. The commissioner made a gesture with his fingers showing just how small of a paragraph the PDB contained. The rest is so called, 'classified.'

3. Lehman and Roemer
certainly want the PDB report released to the public. Rice evaded the questions regarding the release of this most important document. Rice was evasive, placing blame on the intelligence agencies and indicating that she was somehow out of the loop in spite of the information the agencies were trying to make clear. The information put forth should have alerted the administration to try and make preparations for national defense even in spite of not knowing the time and place than an attack would take place. She selectively used the time worn: "I was unaware", "I really don't remember", "best of my recollection", "let me explain". She should be explaining why she is not capable of handling the job of National Security Director. That is what it boils down to. But then we know who has been making reckless decisions while ignoring the facts, Wolfowitz, Cheney, Rumsfeld (Prime Toady), and the Plot King Richard Perle. They did nothing to alter the Big Plan to grab power and control the Mideast. The Dolt in the White House is just there to do his speechifin' and try his sorry best to make the American sheep fall in love with his down home humor.

5. Howard Fineman on AAR said 100% chance it will be released...
He said once all 10 9/11 commissioners asked for it, it was a done deal. Any delay would hurt.

7. Rice says the document focuses
on history. Lame lame lame. The document contains a discussion of AlQueda using hijacking. Coindi has made ealier comments that she ws not aware that AlQueda might use hijacking. Therein her "not aware" comment is self-incriminating. Her attempts to convolute the testimony does appear to indicate that she is lieing.

8. Incredibly, She Claims it Contained No Warnings!
Edited on Thu Apr-08-04 05:34 PM by Beetwasher
The title of the document is one huge warning...

"Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States."

If that's not a warning, I don't know what is....

I guess because it didn't further elaborate by saying "...On 9/11 with 4 hijacked airplanes to be used as missiles and crashed into the WTC and Pentagon" she didn't think it was a warning...

One word: PERJURY

10. Don't ever forget that Bin Laden
is a member of the Saudi royal family and Bushco is in tight with the Saudis. 'Gotta' be careful, guys, don't want to ruffle the Saudi folk's feathers', maybe they'll handle the Al Queda thingy'.
The imagination works well for me.

13. Here's the problem with it. You ask anyone about Bin Laden
Edited on Thu Apr-08-04 10:29 PM by sixtoes1
pre-9/11 this question. "Do you think Bin Laden would like to attack us here on our own soil?" the answer you would get is "DUH!" Her point is that that's not news. We knew that after the first WTC bombing. Even my babysitter knew that. If that's all the document states (which I'm sure it is) then you can't pin a thing on her. Because everyone else besides rabid repugs and DUers will say, "No shit. Fuck, even I knew that. That's news to the president? Don't think so." End of story. ONE FUCKING MEMO THAT THE WHITE HOUSE IS GLEEFULLY WANTING TO RELEASE!!! THEY CAN'T FUCKING WAIT!!! Because THEY know what's in it and we don't. Hang your hat on this and you'll be sorely disappointed, I'm afraid.

9. And if they do release them are we to assume that doctor rice and friends
haven't 'doctored' the the documents? Right. Computers are a wonderful thing my friends. And any leaks of the document we just the 'work while it was in progress'.

I don't believe any of this crap, and I don't think the committee is doing a very good job of trying to find out what happened.

12. They will declassify the document and it will say exactly
Edited on Thu Apr-08-04 10:17 PM by sixtoes1
what Condi said. Why in the world would she stick to her guns, knowing that that document will likely be released anyway? We're getting too excited over this. I'm beginning to see a pattern here. * waited until Clarke had fired all his rounds before he sent Condi up there. Admin gets the last word. Now we're all worked up over one stinkin memo which probably says exactly what Rice says it does. We'll get the "see I told you so" treatment. We're being led around by the nose. If that happens. What do we ask for next? We're being nickeled and dimed to death here. Is that all we got out of this? Request to see one fucking memo? WTFO? They'll make us get all lathered up over it, then it will be released with big thud. A thud that leaves us all scratching our heads. This political machine they have is savvy. Everything they do is calculated. It's going to be released and that's just what they want.

14. I am not at all convinced of that

And if you need specifics, let's point out the obvious : that the document warned *specifically* of ongoing preparations "consistent with" plans for the hijacking of commercial aircraft.

That is not simply some "historical overview" or "common knowledge" matter. It is not something that your babysitter would already know. It is a specific warning of ongoing preparations for an impending terrorist attack. Furthermore, it came in amid a mammoth "spike" in terrorism "chatter". That context *cannot* be overstated.

Yet, against all reason and common sense, when confronted with this highest-level warning -- listing a specific method ("hijackings") as well as a general location ("inside the United States"), *just one month prior to 9/11/01* -- George W. Bush and his cronies **did nothing**. NOTHING.

I find it extremely unlikely that Bush & Co. intentionally are putting themselves in this position. Rove is not that all-powerful, nor that foolish. It is like accusing Nixon of engineering the Watergate scandal for his own benefit.

Furthermore, if this document contains ANY of what the commission members said it did (ie: warning of ongoing preparations consistent with planned hijackings), then Ms. Rice's statement that this document was merely "historical" (ie: move along, nothing to see here, etc) is false to the point of purjury.
