Former President Clinton Testifies To 9/11 Commission
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Former U.S. President Bill Clinton testified behind closed doors to the national commission investigating the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on Thursday, the panel said.

"The commission found the former president forthcoming and responsive to its questions. We appreciate the excellent cooperation he and his associates have given to us," the commission said in a brief statement.

Surprise! It would have been wonderful to hear what he had to say.

2. I saw the two guys from the commission talking about it on PBS.
Both the Republican and the Democrat sounded like they have been wooed by Clinton... The admiration was in their voices. Now they probably realize what we have in the White House: a little man that needs his puppeteer to show in front of them.

19. I saw some of the commissioners on Larry King
James Thompson called him one of the "best politicians this country's produced" with, i think, no irony. They were all impressed by how frank and articulate he was. i miss the big guy.

5. Can * be shamed into testifying alone?
This is good that the big guy went first. The pressure is now on *. Since he has no shame, I doubt he will go it alone. Plus his handlers know better than to allow him even if he did want to.

(No offense meant, but somehow the idea that * would have the least shame about anything--I mean, it's impossible in a man who has a gigantic hollowness where normal people have a conscience.)

6. Why closed doors?
It would appear that our fearless leaders have a few qualms about democracy.

I want Bush and Clinton's testimonies on television, pronto.

14. Most of those who appear in
a public hearing have first testified, under oath, in a closed hearing. It's classified intelligence that is of concern and rightfully so.

Condi is the only one who appeared in a closed session - not under oath. Only the public uproar, after she refused the commission's request to appear in public, got her butt nailed to the seat in front of the cameras.

Clinton hasn't been asked to appear in a public hearing. And I don't think the Repukes on the Commission would want him to. It would remind people of how good we had it when we had a real President. They do not want Clinton explaining in public how he was making great efforts to find and take out bin Laden while at the same time being railroaded toward a frame-up for impeachment by Republicans who did everything possible to thwart his efforts. It was "wagging the dog" when he went after bin Laden - remember?

7. Heh, heh.
I doubt the commission will be nearly as impressed by the testimony of Snippy Smirk. It will be interesting to see how enthusiastic they are about his mumblings and hemming and hawing.

9. An Update on the story that will not make * happy...
Edited on Thu Apr-08-04 09:44 PM by drscm
A person familiar with the session said Clinton told the commission he did not order retaliatory military strikes after the bombing of the USS Cole (news - web sites) in the autumn of 2000 because he could not get "a clear, firm judgment of responsibility" from U.S. intelligence before he left office the following January.

It wasn't until after the Bush administration took power that U.S. intelligence concluded al-Qaida had sponsored the attack on the ship. Some commissioners have been critical of the decision not to launch a retaliatory military strike.

Please give this story a 5.

It always amazes me how these folks are unable to read and understand information, and how they talk about everything but the subject at hand.

15. Kinda makes you long for the days when we had a pres with a brain!
Oh the nostalgia.

A president who could speak.
A president who worked.
A president who wasn't a total corporate whore.

That was nice.

20. As much as I like Clinton, why didn't he test publicly?
It only helps *'s argument of private testimony.

22. Clinton and Gore had agreed to testify publicly
when the hearings were first proposed, but then * and Cheney said they'd only testify (meet) in private. Then, since Clinton is a former president, it would be unseemly for him to testify publicly if the Chimp won't, so he did so privately.

23. I'm sure Fox news had something to do with it being behind closed doors
That might be reaching a bit but the way this administration is married to Fox News it would not surprise me.
It would MAKE them have to report it and we all know that Clinton did 100 times more than Bush did in the war on terrorism. ( To all you lurking freepers LOOK IT UP..if you dare )
If they REALLY thought that Clinton did nothing they would be talking about what he said 24/7..But not a peep..Its almost as if he did not testify. But geeze when Clinton had to testify about Monica they could not get the news out fast enough. Lib Bias my ass!
