GOP bill would end California pension bargaining
Source: AP

A Republican state assemblyman has introduced a bill intended to eliminate collective bargaining for pension benefits by California's public employees.

The bill by Assemblyman Allan Mansoor of Costa Mesa attempts to address the soaring costs of retired public employees, but has little chance in a Legislature controlled by Democrats.

Pension reform has become a hot topic in California and many other states hammered by the recession, aging populations and hangovers from generous benefits granted to public employees during better economic times.

The bill Mansoor announced Tuesday, AB961, contains no specific language, stating merely that it's the Legislature's intent to enact a law "that would reform the public retirement system."

We've got a lot of work to do to fix things in CA but I don't think this is the way to do it.

4. CA has 11.5 million private jobs, 90.7% non-union and 2.4 million public jobs, 56.6% union.
Will 10.4 million voters not protected by unions back 1.4 million public jobs protected by unions?

6. Depends.
http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-bell-impact-20100729,0,6243085.story

California's been through some rough times recently with public jobs that collect absolutely obscene amounts, leading to high-profile media stories.

8. When the government
stops giving all the taxpayer money to the big banks and wall street,
then there won't be a problem with pensions. As long as we allow them
to rob us, it will only continue.
