Arvada Police defend arrest of 11-year-old over drawing
Source: KDVR TV - Denver

ARVADA, Colo. -- Arvada Police are defending the way they handled the arrest of an 11-year-old boy. The Arvada boy was arrested and hauled away in handcuffs from his home for drawing stick figures in school - something his therapist told him to do.

--

She says she told her son to cooperate and tell the truth, but was horrified when they told her they were arresting him and then handcuffed him and hauled him away in a patrol car. His mother says she begged police to let her drive her son to the police department and to let her stay with him through the booking process but they refused.

They put him in a cell, took his mug shot and fingerprinted him. He says he thought he was going to jail and would never be able to go home again.

3. Did the kid have a license to own a stick figure holding a gun?
Errr... wait.

Ok. Maybe if the stick figure victims would have been armed this would not have happened.

That's not it.

I'm not sure why this kid was hauled off in cuffs, but then I don't think like a cop.

him, and having two large and armed-with-more-than-one-weapon adults put him in a patrol car and lock him up with real criminals that sometimes use real guns, as well as some who might see him as prey, is just a DANDY way to insure that he will be less likely to exhibit violent behavior n the future, eh?

27. Around the 60's
right after Kent State....for our own good, of course.

I hope the mother gets a good lawyer, and a big enough settlement to put the whole family through Harvard.

28. I'd say August 1st, 1966, for the US.

Kent State wasn't in the 60's, it was 1970, FWIW.

Take your pick, though:

The list goes back to 1764.

9. WTF kind of school/system is this???
'He felt calmer and was throwing the picture away when the teacher saw it and sent him to the principal's office.

The school was aware that the boy was in treatment, determined he was not a threat, notified his parents and sent him back to class. His mother, "Jane" was shocked when Arvada Police showed up at their home later that night...

At first school officials did not want to press charges, but changed their mind when police called them later that night. A juvenile assessment report shows he's never been in legal trouble before and is at low risk to reoffend.'

10. the mother's first mistake was telling the kid to cooperate with the cops.
You never talk with the cops. Anything you say will be used as an excuse to arrest you for something. Cops only purpose in life is to arrest people, regardless of criminal activity.

Cops could be a force for good. But in between the drug war and the hysterical desire to label every male over 12 a sex offender, cops have become scary bullies.

On the plus side physical brutality isn't as severe as it was in the past. But I don't know why anyone would cooperate with the police. Their role is to uphold the law, not help and protect people.

31. Pomerians do NOT make the list of how many dogs does it take to change a light bulb
Edited on Thu Feb-24-11 08:29 AM by happyslug
http://brotherwolfandfriends.com/AHchnagelightbulb.html#dogs

How Many Dogs Does It Take To Change A Light Bulb?

Golden Retriever: The sun is shining, the day is young, we've got our whole lives ahead of us, and you're inside worrying about a stupid burned out bulb?

Border Collie: Just one. And then I'll replace any wiring that's not up to code.

Dachshund: You know I can't reach that stupid lamp!

Rottweiler: Make me.

Boxer: Who cares? I can still play with my squeaky toys in the dark.

Lab: Oh, me, me!!!!! Pleeeeeeeeeze let me change the light bulb! Can I? Can I? Huh? Huh? Huh? Can I? Pleeeeeeeeeze, please, please, please!

German Shepherd: I'll change it as soon as I've led these people from the dark, check to make sure I haven't missed any, and make just one more perimeter patrol to see that no one has tried to take advantage of the situation.

Jack Russell Terrier: I'll just pop it in while I'm bouncing off the walls and furniture.

Old English Sheep Dog: Light bulb? I'm sorry, but I don't see a light bulb!

Cocker Spaniel: Why change it? I can still pee on the carpet in the dark.

Chihuahua: Yo quiero Taco Bulb. Or "We don't need no stinking light bulb."

Greyhound: It isn't moving. Who cares?

Australian Shepherd: First, I'll put all the light bulbs in a little circle....

Poodle: I'll just blow in the Border Collie's ear and he'll do it. By the time he finishes rewiring the house, my nails will be dry.

How Many Cats Does it Take to Change a Light Bulb?

Cat:"How long will it be before I can expect some light, some dinner, and a massage?"

Note the site uses the term "Australian Shepherd" then uses a picture of an Australian Cattle Dog. As an owner of an Australian Shepherd, what is said is accurate for an Australian Shepherd.

Side Note. The Australian Shepherd is a native of the United States, it is believed to be the only breed of dog that was breed in the United States. Various rationales have been written on how the Australian Shepherd was called an Australian Shepherd, the most likely is that it was the dog to use to herd the new Sheep from Australia that replaced Cattle around 1900 in much of the American West i.e, it was named after the Sheep not the Country. The fur of the Australian Shepherd reflects where it was developed, the American West and thus can handle extremely cold temperatures. The problem is the same Coat makes it hard on Australian Shepherds in hot weather, as in Australia. Thus the Australian Shepherd is popular in the US, but unheard of in Australia. The Australian Cattle dog is native to Australia, as can be seen in its very short coat so it can handle the heat better.
