Scott Walker Talks To "David Koch"
Source: The New Republic

Jonathan Chait

A lot of political pranks are cheap and stupid, but this is pretty brilliant:

(snip)

What follows is a lengthy phone call between Walker and a liberal blogger pretending to be Koch. It's quite interesting in all sorts of ways. one is that the fake caller fails to get Walker to endorse a plan to plant troublemakers among the protesters, but he does get him to bite on this:

Walker: Oh yeah, but who watches that? I went on “Morning Joe” this morning. I like it because I just like being combative with those guys, but, uh. You know they’re off the deep end.
Koch: Joe—Joe’s a good guy. He’s one of us.
Walker: Yeah, he’s all right. He was fair to me…
Koch: Beautiful; beautiful. You gotta love that Mika Brzezinski; she’s a real piece of ass.
Walker: Oh yeah.

Nice! Another main takeaway from the call is the degree to which Walker, in the face of mounting evidence, seems to really believe the public is on his side. The whole thing is a great window into a candid conversation to which the public would ordinarily never be privy.

The website Chait links to appears to be down from too much traffic, but there are youtube vids of the phone call:

3. "stereotypical?
So he is gathering an army of "blue-collar worker" stereotypes to speak on his behalf. As the old saying goes, sincerity is the most important thing here---if you can fake that, you've got it made.

4. Didn't Walker say that he had considered a plan to put disruptor's among the demonstrators?

This how they really talk and think when they think when they are with "their own."

6. Did Scott Walker Get Crank-Call Pwned? (AUDIO)
Source: Mother Jones

— By Adam Weinstein| Wed Feb. 23, 2011 2:15 AM PST

Is that really Scott Walker? A New York-based alt-news editor says he got through to the embattled Wisconsin governor on the phone Tuesday by posing as right-wing financier David Koch...then had a far-ranging 20-minute conversation about the collective bargaining protests. According to the audio, Walker told him:

That statehouse GOPers were plotting to hold Democratic senators' pay until they returned to vote on the controversial union-busting bill.
That Walker was looking to nail Dems on ethics violations if they took meals or lodging from union supporters.
That he'd take "Koch" up on this offer: "nce you crush these bastards I'll fly you out to Cali and really show you a good time."

My favorite part of the call is still when Walker agrees that Mika from Morning Joe is "a real piece of ass." A class act.

9. So he wants to nail Dems for taking meals and lodging from union supporters
then turns around and says that he'll accept an offer to take transportation, meals, and lodging from someone he believes is one of his supporters.

10. I thought it was interesting
Edited on Wed Feb-23-11 10:27 AM by AsahinaKimi
when he mentioned the Ronald Reagan photo, and taking the example of how Reagan broke the Air Traffic Controllers by firing them. I wonder if this VIDEO can do any good AGAINST Walker. What impact could it have for bringing him DOWN?

Any thoughts? OR will Walker just not care...??

13. The right is spinning it as showing Walker doesn't know Koch personally
I was checking out the twitter feed of that Indiana deputy AG who called for violence against the protesters -- and it seems that the righties have their knickers all in a bunch over this prank call and are desperately trying to spin their way out of it.

If they're that worried, it suggests this probably will go mainstream.

15. Nice.
So at 7:42 of the first video Wisconsin Republican Governor Scott Walker is admitting his offer to "talk" with democrats is NOT genuine but a PLOY to get them to come back to Wisconsin so Republicans can pass the bill???

BuffaloBeast.com should be commended for an awesome, off-the-cuff example of citizen investigation.
