'Climategate' report clears scientists
By Andrew Restuccia - 02/24/11 10:25 AM ET

A Commerce Department inspector general investigation into the “Climategate” controversy finds that government scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration did not manipulate climate change data.

It’s the latest investigation to clear scientists of manipulating climate data after thousands of e-mails from the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit were leaked in 2009.

“Climategate” has become something of a rallying call for climate skeptics, who have pointed to the e-mails to suggest there is a conspiracy among the world’s scientists. But a slew of investigations into the e-mails have cleared scientists of any wrongdoing.

“In our review of the CRU emails, we did not find any evidence that NOAA inappropriately manipulated data comprising the Global Historical Climatology Networ] dataset or failed to adhere to appropriate peer review procedures,” said the report, which was authored by Commerce Department Inspector General Todd Zinser at the request of Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.).

1. It doesn't matter what they say now
its already in the minds of the right that scientists lied about global warming and it will take 20 years before that taint is gone.

10. Too true.
Far too many of those who believed this in the first place are distrustful of science in the first place. They're not about to question what the conservative media/talking heads told them in the first place.

2. So we can say that Senator Inhofe has cleared the scientists?
After all, he initiated the investigation.

11. Perhaps we should!
ANYTHING that puts them on the defensive and forces them to have to react. Puts them off their game, especially if we've seized the initiative and framed the issue already.

5. Kicked and recommended although I believe the use of the word "gate" to describe
every scandal or non-scandal only serves to diminish Nixon's real life abuse of power scandal, aka; Watergate.

I believe much of the corporate media has done this purposefully as a means to rehab Nixon's image and by extension that of the corporate supremacist Republicans.

Thanks for the thread, kpete.

6. Oh, yesterday's lies! What about today's lies directed at climate scientists?
After all, the game of the climate-change deniers is not to have good arguments but rather to spout lies repeatedly, thus confusing the issue for the majority of people.

12. Funny that no one investgates Exxon-Mobil role in lies/propaganda re Global Warming!!
Royal Academy of Science called them out about two years ago for their -- and

oil industry's tens of billions spent on spreading lies about GW to the American

public -- no one else seems interested, however . . .

Probably only because our corporate-press doesn't know about this 50+ year activity

by Exxon-Mobil -- !!!
