to push the good news. The hit on the Sheraton put an end to that BS quickly. Seems the Iraqis understand the slanted news the world is getting from these liars.

22. Thanks! Nice to know I heard that correctly. Do you remember how
he started that statement exactly? Was it "they understand that information is key" or something like that? It was the beginning of the comment that made the rest hit home with me. All I could think of was "truth" from FOX? Who is this masked reporter and I wonder how much longer he'll have his job?

19. Cnn
A loud explosion was heard in Baghdad this morning near the Sheraton Hotel. Meanwhile, the U.S. military paused in its offensive against insurgents in Fallujah to allow for talks with city leaders, but reports from the scene said sporadic fighting continues. Also, a general returning from Kut told CNN that U.S. forces have been engaging in heavy fighting to retake the city

20. Update from Reuters
Mortar Attack in Central Baghdad, No Casualties
2 minutes ago
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A mortar round landed close to Baghdad's Sheraton Hotel on Friday, causing a thunderous explosion that echoed across the city center, but there were no casualties, a Reuters correspondent at the scene said.

The mortar landed in the grounds of a house near the hotel, sending up a large plume of smoke.

U.S. forces had been on high alert for major guerrilla attacks in Baghdad on Friday to coincide with the first anniversary of the ousting of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein (news - web sites).

Many foreign contractors, businesspeople, diplomats and journalists are based in the Sheraton and the nearby Palestine Hotel.

28. no real news gets out from Iraq
Bush and Co have made sure that no real news gets out from Iraq. Reporters have to clear everything with US military. Just watched a news clip from the BBC. Their reporter on the ground said that area around Sherton was a closed area today. US forces had announced that the area was completely shut off today and anyone entering area without permit would be shot on sight. yeah, but remember according to US military, Baghdad is under control and calm.

Also, no reports of any celebrations marking the one year anniversary of the overthrow of Saddam. Strange, if the Iraqi people were so happy to be "liberated" why no celebration????

25. Remember the Iraqi Information Minister?
Edited on Fri Apr-09-04 10:19 AM by DulceDecorum

"That bastard the American Minister of Defense Rumsfeld, and I won't say shamelessly, because they don't know what shame means. These are criminals. The whole word can hear the warning sirens. This criminal sitting in the White House is a pathetic criminal and his Defense Minister deserves to be beaten. These criminals lie to the world because they are criminals by nature and conditioning. They consider this a military site! Shame on you! You will forever be shamed! You have ruined the reputation of the American people in the most terrible way! Shame on you! And we will destroy you!"

"Faltering forces of infidels cannot just enter a country of 26 million people and lay besiege to them! They are the ones who will find themselves under siege. Therefore, in reality whatever this miserable Rumsfeld has been saying, he was talking about his own forces. Now even the American command is under siege.

"They (the U.S.) are deceiving their soldiers and their officers that aggressing against Iraq and invading Iraq will be like a picnic. This is a very stupid lie they are telling their soldiers, what they are facing is a definite death."

"The shock has backfired on them. They are shocked because of what they have seen. No one received them with roses. They were received with bombs, shoes and bullets. Now, the game has been exposed. Awe will backfire on them. This is the boa snake. We will extend it further and cut it the appropriate way."

"W. Bush, this man is a war criminal, and we will see
that he is brought to trial"

"I think the British nation has never been faced with a tragedy like this fellow (Blair)."

"We're going to drag the drunken junkie nose of Bush through Iraq's desert, him and his follower dog Blair...There are 26 million Saddams in Iraq"

Not so funny now.
Not so funny at all.

41. skimming lbn - blast in Baghdad, insurgents take control of a mjr highway
and related (I think) to the highway is the attack (and blowing up) of a convoy including oil transport.

Am I missing any of this morning's highlights - seperate events?

How tragic for all - more loss of life, more destruction, and yet the president keeps up his pace of 40% of his time in office spent on vacation/respite at the ranch, camp david or up in maine. Wasn't he the one pushing "personal responsibility" in his last campaign - yet he can't take the responsibility for his policies and at least treat things as very somber and serious and in need of constant TOP attention?

44. The Smirk will go down with his lack of "accountability."
No matter how loudly his defenders yell things like "It's not the President's job to find you a job" and "What is he supposed to do...go over there and fight alongside the Marines?" and "It's Clinton's Fault for (insert any current problem in America)"...

By November, enough people will see he passes the buck on everything and even if they can't admit he is lying, they will have to admit he doesn't seem to give a damn about the real problems.

The bad news is becoming overwhelming. I don't see how anyone other than the terminally stupid will vote for him if this keeps going the way it is. I expect the economy to take a nose dive buy the end of summer too.
