New Hampshire's new Republican state House speaker is pretty clear about what he thinks of college kids and how they vote. They're "foolish," Speaker William O'Brien said in a recent speech to a tea party group.

They're "foolish," Speaker William O'Brien said in a recent speech to a tea party group.
"Voting as a liberal. That's what kids do," he added, his comments taped by a state Democratic Party staffer and posted on YouTube. Students lack "life experience," and "they just vote their feelings."

I guess they'll be shutting those College Republicans groups then.

1. What it comes down to - Republicans want to make it harder to vote
while Democrats want to make it easier to vote. Republicans are always the ones trying to block voter registration drives, always the ones objecting to someone voting at the polling place and always the one pushing for voter ID.

Republicans have a theory that it they make it difficult to vote, fewer people will which will make it easier for republicans to win elections.

Simply put, republicans don't think we the people includes all people.

7. Some of "Them" still think that only White Male Land Owners
Edited on Mon Mar-07-11 10:42 AM by jemelanson
Should have the Right to Vote. There are even Others would restrict it even further and thing that only White Male Christian Land owners should have to right to Vote and Hold Office. Because you know that women only vote for the most handsome candidate, or the one her Husband tells her to vote for. You know politics and voting is just way beyond the mental capacity for women. And People of color do not have the intelligence to comprehend the whole electoral process. And until Men reach the age of 21, they are good for nothing except cannon fodder.

Yes Folks we are reverting to the 1800's. Wonder what all the Women( read girls) in office are going to do when they find themselves confronted with just this sort of utter Nonsense.

When the neo-thugs and the right wing conservatives christian fundies become blantant enought with their plans to strip away all the anti-discrimination amendment from the Constitution and to try to keep all those Women(girl) at home barefoot and pregnant. Those Women(girls) don't need a college education, they just need to know how to read well enough to operate the appliances in their home and to read and follow a receipt so they can have a hot meal on the table, a totally clean house, and greet their Husband at the door with a smile, all dressed to please, hair styled and a pearl necklace on, a la June Cleaver on Leave it to Beaver. That is what they want.

HEY STUPID neo-thug. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. ARE THOSE WORDS TO HARD FOR your little brain TO UNDERSTAND.

NO WAY.

Capitalization used was deliberate.

2. Someone should inform that "thing" the reason we allow
students 18 and older to vote. If they are old enough to go to war, they are old enough to vote.

5. Now let's see, they can be tried as an adult, they can die for their country, but these assholes
don't think they should vote?

How about this, take the vote away from those less than 21, and require those over 55 to go into the Army?

oh wait a minute, that would include me...

9. When it comes right down to it
RW Republicans ain't all that keen on democracy. Here in NH, they've already managed to set up an opt-out to the traditional town and school district meetings - Democracy in one of it's purest forms.

12. It's like deja vu all over again.
A county in Texas that is home to a historically black university closed the polling place there, forcing students to travel twelve miles to the county seat in order to vote. :eyes:

13. Projection alert...
when I hear this kind of shit my head spins. Most of this country votes "their feelings". It's not restricted to a specific demographic. The tea party wouldn't have any momentum if it wasn't spurred by angry people who often can't even give you specific reasons WHY they're angry... they just know it's all the Democrat's fault. Sean Hannity told them so.

What this is really about is trying to suppress voter turnout, as Republicans are much more likely to win when fewer people show up to vote.

14. then they should just repeal the 26th amendment and leave voting age to the states?
but it's so much easier to evade the constitution rather than confront it. Just like how they'd rather eliminate birthright citizenship at the state level rather than revise the 14th amendment. Hell, why not kill all the voting rights acts and amendments and restrict the vote to homeowners?
