A former Ottawa police officer arrested in an online sex sting in Pennsylvania last year has been sentenced to 10½ years in prison.

Sixty-year-old Paul Maher of Richmond, Ont., plans to petition the Canadian government to allow him to serve most of his jail time in Canada after a federal judge imposed the sentence Tuesday.

Maher pleaded guilty in November to travelling with intent to engage in illicit sex and coercion and enticement of a person he thought was a 14-year-old girl.

SIXTY? As Cenk would say, Maher is a pervy wanker.

1. What I hate is his request to come back to Canada
Sorry, you prick. You do a crime in a foreign country, suffer the consequences of their penal system.

3. return to Canada - HELL NO.
He did the crime and the US is prosecuting him. Let them foot the bill and let him suffer the consequences of being a) a cop and b) a chomo in prison.

Welcome to the jungle.....

4. My first instinct is with you....
but I know what my dad would say. He would say that the family is serving time with them and it is the compassionate thing to do to make it possible for them to visit, since they've commited no crime and will be devastated by the whole thing.

I would argue with him for a little bit after that, but he'd probably win me over.

2. Fr. Porter asked to serve his sentence in his home state, rather than where he molested, too.
