Wis. governor greeted at Washburn fundraiser by thousands of protesters
Edited on Sun Mar-13-11 10:25 AM by eowyn_of_rohan

By: John Lundy, Duluth News Tribune

Wisconsin’s protracted family fight over the budget and public employee unions moved to this Bayfield County town Saturday evening, as embattled Gov. Scott Walker spoke at an invitation-only event and was greeted by at least 2,000 angry protesters outside.

Walker arrived in a convoy of six unmarked police cars that pulled up at 5:45 p.m. to the Steak Pit for a Republican Lincoln Day fundraiser. The large, boisterous crowd, which had been lining the streets leading to the restaurant since 4:30, quickly recognized him and erupted in boos and shouts of “Recall Walker.”

The convoy moved through quickly and without incident, and most of the protesters began to follow a circuitous route on public pathways to a spot behind the restaurant where they continued the protest within earshot of the Republican Party faithful inside.

Bayfield County Sheriff Paul Susienka said Saturday evening that he didn’t have a crowd estimate, but various people had estimated the size at between 2,000 and 5,000. So the protest probably at least doubled the size of Washburn, which has a population of 2,271.

This happened YESTERDAY, while the Madison rally was going on, WAY up north in Wisconsin. Thought he could run and hide...so much for this claim that all the people against his bill were in Madison - the rest were on "his" side!

:yourock: :applause:

Yet 5,000 (?) showed up to protest.

We need to do that to ALL the Regressives, each and every time they show up in public, in every state.
EVERY time.

and it's not even that easy to get to - it's way out in the woods along the shore of Lake Superior. So it's awesome that almost twice the population of the town showed up to protest these assholes. In March!

(I've also eaten at the Steak Pit. Nice restaurant, good food.)

Does this bit of security overkill mean the cost of gov't in Wisconsin just went UP??? Walker said we'd really like the increased efficiency once his budget took hold. Now we know exactly what he was referring to.

suddenly remembered this -- when the UW played in the Rose Bowl in 1994, and Tommmy of course was in L.A. for the game and one night was boozing/shmoozing at a Badger party. A reporter asked a guy in attendance which one was our governor - the guy pointed him out and the reporter said, "I should have known. I can tell that guy is full of shit just by looking at him"

We got a good laugh out of that one.

DCCC attacks Duffy/Walker fundraiser in Washburn
by Steve Hanson | March 12, 2011 - 3:17pm

House Democratic strategists think Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) and his efforts to strip public sector workers of collective bargaining rights can be a potent issue in 2012 congressional races.

At the very least, they see Walker as an effective tool for energizing donors.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) launched on Saturday an online campaign targeting Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wis.) and Walker for “selling out Wisconsin workers.”.................

69. What Fantastic Footage!
I am fighting back tears and have goosebumps over video #1...What a beautiful sight

Great to hear Rep's Janet Bewley & Nick Milroy speak. So glad they are able to get a bit of sweet revenge for what the thugs did to them (and ALL OF US)...

YOU all made it happen. I wish I could have been there.

Now I'm watching the Stevens Point video - holee crap. I love Wisconsin... Feel like road-tripping all around our state now.

SOLIDARITY!

It was a great experience. A thing to be proud of. The official count is 2200 based on photos and videos. Now the small disclaimer. My son, his wife and their friends were all part of the team that pulled this large peaceful rally off with just three days of warning.

65. K&R^^^^plus the Republican corporate fascist backed legislators are being RECALLED and REPLACED
and John Byron Van Hollen (secret society member known to those of US that listen to whistleblowers)-what gave you the right to declare "...Obamacare is dead in Wisconsin...". We, the people sure as heck didn't. Btw, JB here's an old thread I started based on open sources that are among my growing network of friends.

Van Hollen attorney met with GOP officials before election suit (started 9-20-08)
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x3501560

One further note Mr. Van Hollen-I'd like to discuss "Tiny" with you and your staff along with my Congressman's Wisconsin Chief of Staff and several interested attorneys.

122. for the time being, eowyn _of_rohan what do you think of WI AG John Byron Van Hollen-was my old
thread helpful in bringing forth facts about JB that have been obscured due to extreme politicization here in corporate fascist backed Wisconsin "government".

Well, since you did say "please" let's say that Tiny represents the kind of thug Scott Walker acknowledged thinking about employing when he thought he was talking to David Koch. Tiny is a murderer and a human trafficker that walked away from a federal grand jury held in Milwaukee in 1970.

Let me get back to my question to you, please, was my old thread about John Byron Van Hollen of interest to you eowyn_of_rohan, or anyone else???

for letting this guy know that the wonderful folks of Chequamegon Bay Region are still part of this state and just as fed up with him as the 100K that showed up in Madison. The "lesson" snotty Scotty should learn from this is there is no place in Wisconsin for him to hide.

115. Yet the mainstream media has yet to broadcast any of it this weekend. They should take a poll.
And find out what Walker's "favor ability" numbers are in Wisconsin.
You know, how many people still think favorably of him, how many think unfavorably of him.

I'll bet his negative numbers are at least twice what his positive numbers are.
