CEOs urge Arizona to forgo immigration measures
Source: AZCentral.com

Dozens of major Arizona employers are urging state lawmakers to not pass additional legislation targeting illegal immigration, saying it would damage the economy and tourism industry.

A letter signed by CEOs of major employers and several business and civic groups says Arizona should be pushing for federal action on immigration and border issues.

The letter says "unintended consequences" occur when the state "goes it alone" on illegal immigration, including boycotts and other fallout on businesses.

10. That's it in a nutshell.
I've said all along the biggest opponents to these immigration reforms are the owners and managers of big businesses that exploit the immigrant labor pool.

14. Plus big black mark against state reputation. Plus uncertainty about harassment
of legal workers. Plus other considerations

It's also entirely possible that some of these folk are taking the right stand for the right reasons

4. No kidding. This is why the whole thing was as empty as the ACORN videos
or Schiavo or WMD or any of the other completely fictional rightwing distraction stories

As I and others have said for a long time - you get Smithfield Packing and Tyson Foods and the Western Growers Association on board then come talk to me. Otherwise it is nothing but racism and playing victim to a harmless opponent.

5. Never mind about the lives these draconian laws affect or the people who suffer, got to think about
economy and tourism. If it didn't affect our ability to make profit, you could target all the legislation you want to harm people. What a bunch of corporate slime.

7. Confusing for teabaggers
This letter will be very confusing for teabaggers & repigs, whom all hate immigrants but adore rich businessmen to the point of orgasm.

They'll be awfully confused until they get their orders from Fox "news" and AM radio on how they should feel about it.

9. It was only a matter of time until the real users in this issue revealed
themselves. The immigrants would not be coming if no one is hiring them.

11. Hey Mister Suit-: This is Called BLOW-BACK!
Edited on Wed Mar-16-11 06:25 PM by Vogon_Glory
Hey Mister Corporate Suit! When you pump millions of dollars into the campaign coffers of people like russell Pearce and Jan Brewer, knowing full well that the one has been immigrant-bashing for years and the other decided to tie her political fortune to those immigrant-bashers, you should expect consequences. In case you all haven't noticed yet, those consequences are already in motion. Hundreds of thousands of Hispanics have left Arizona to seek better lives for themselves and their families, taking their dollars with them and leaving Arizona businesses to founder. Hundreds of thousands of vacationers are repulsed by the thinly-covered racism of those Arizona politicians and talking heads beating the drums for this legislation and cancel any plans they had for vacationing in your state. Careful investors weigh the risks of being caught in economic boycotts of Arizona businesses and decide to invest their money elsewhere. Foreign customers, particularly those from Mexico south to the tip of Tierra del Fuego wonder if they can face their friends, families, and fellow executives after doing business with the guys who funded the Arizona Republican Party. As Arizona movers and shakers, you're probably wondering why you, your spouses or your children are getting cold looks and icy politeness not just from the custodians but from higher up the economic totem pole. Could it be because they know you fund the Arizona Republican Party?

This is the bed of unintended consequences you people made. Now you get to sleep in it.

I hope the bed bugs DO bite. HARD.

:grr:

12. Arizona Senate rejects immigration bills
PHOENIX - Concluding the measures go too far, state senators on Thursday
rejected a package of bills designed to crack down on illegal immigration.

With Republicans joining the minority Democrats, lawmakers refused to approve
bills which, taken together, were designed to challenge the notion that someone
born in the United States is automatically considered a citizen.

They also voted down measures to:

- require hospitals to make an effort to determine if the people they are
treating are in this country legally

- restrict the registration of vehicles to only legal residents;

- make it a state crime for an illegal immigrant to drive in Arizona;

- bar admission into state universities and community colleges of anyone
who cannot prove citizenship or legal residency;

- mandate that cities evict all residents of a public housing unit
if even one occupant is an illegal immigrant.

13. This is what happens when the corporate wing of the rethug party encourages the teabagging wing.
The teabaggers actually start to think they have power.

It's fun to watch! :popcorn:
